Q: Would you recommended this for looping guitar in Ableton?

Yes, this is a reliable and configurable MIDI pedal and will work with Ableton MIDI mapping.

Q: Can you use more than one of these pedals together to control ableton without overlapping data?

Short answer. Yes this works.Long Answer. Two or more UMI3s can be used at the same time on the same computer. Each one shows up as a different instance of the same device and can be used at the same time in your DAW. Because the UMI3 has a on-board saving capability each switch of each pedal can be programmed to send a different message.The catch is: The UMI3 Setup Panel only supports access to one unit a the time. This means:- the step sequencer only works on one unit at a time.- programming the on-board memory has to happen one unit at a time. But once units are programmed, running the setup panel is no longer required.So if all you are trying to do is increase your number of static switches and expression pedals, you will have no trouble doing that with multiple units.

Q: Can this be used to hit record and stop within Ableton? If not, any suggestions on what kind of remote foot switch would?

it can. i use two of them with ableton and they work great. the software that comes with the pedals (download) is rudimentary but allows you to store note values, CC's, program changes...etc., to the pedals internal memory. for instance mine are Channel 1, CC 102, 103, 104 (pedal 1) CC 105 106 107 (pedal 2). these #'s travel with the pedals so no matter the software I'm using, Ableton, Garageband, MainStage, Amplitube....the pedal #'s stay the same.
