Definitely one for the library
Great starter book to help you build understanding of ChineseThe pronunciation is explained but a CD of hearing the correct way to say it would build more confidence. Chinese is a tonal language so it is important to learn with correct inflections

This is not for lazy people
This book actually requires you to spend time studying. If you think you have bought it and just because of that you know Chinese all of a sudden...then you're wrong. It has simple as well as complex exercising patterns so all in all if you put the time in you will get the results with this book.

Invaluable
The only mistake I made when buying this was not getting volume 2 at the same time. I'm studying Mandarin at home, using a Zoom class, Duolingo, and a workbook that offers online audio practice, so I need to do a lot of self-directed writing study. Honestly, could not have done it without these books. Between them, the two volumes cover everything that I need for any of my individual study media/texts. Perfect.

Step by step
Numerous books to help me to learn to read Chinese and this one as a starter looks good. Helps you practice writing the characters and small tests as you go along. Well worth getting, even as a stand by.
