Best Buy I've Had in Ages!
I am well past retirement age and have never owned a working compass. And even though I've lived in the same place for decades, when planting things, I have to stop and think of what is South and what is Southeast at my place. Partly, that's because of trees on horizons and whoppy-jawed orientation of the house, but I always think, "I wish I had a compass right now." Well, now I do. For under $5.00. And it works perfectly. I got one for me and one for each of my two granddaughters so they will not be directionally deprived. At this price, one could give them out at Halloween! It's well sealed in a sturdy little plastic case that closes when not in use. It has a hook for attaching to belts or hiking pants. And it has a bright red indicator on a white dial face. And yes, the whole thing glows in the dark. Aside from being useful to people who tend to lose gadgets and to granny gardeners, it is an excellent way to introduce children to the use of maps. Imagine the games they can play with a compass. I've had way more than $4.50 worth of fun out of mine and recommend it as a sturdy but inexpensive little compass for the uncompassed.

Cheap plastic construction but what should one expect for 5 bucks?
It does what's it's supposed to do: point magnetic north. The liquid fill makes it stable and easy to read and the luminous tip of the needle/pointer is an added bonus. One shot from a flashlight makes it easy to view in low/no light conditions. I wear mine on a lanyard. It's more than light and I forget it's there...until I need it.

Southern Hemisphere Design?
I know how to operate a compass. This one is aligned to point south! :D Great if you're in the southern hemisphere, but I haven't crossed the line in ages. Neither has the 11-y-o who carries it. Other than being 180 degrees out from magnetic north, it's a fine compass. I only noticed this flaw recently when I asked to borrow my child's compass. No wonder t hey were confused when I was explaining things!Note that the compass on the left is pointing to magnetic north while the reviewed compass's luminescent tip is pointing due south. An easy workaround as long as you're able to maintain the presence of mind to remember to go away from the (glow-in-the-dark) light! May be challenging for some.

Works as Expected
I inspect houses for termites and got tired of having to ask others what side of the house I was on...they didn't know either and just "faked" an answer. So I bought this Coleman Pocket Compass based on the Coleman name, the price, and the reviews from others. It's perfect for my purpose. I strung it on a leather cord and hang it around my neck. It's just a basic compass, nothing fancy, but it allows me to go about my business, confident that my report is accurate.

Coleman Pocket Compass
Looked nice in the images, with it's white face, clear designations, and simple design. However,...on arrival,...the one I rec.'d,..had a large air bubble. It is small,...and I mean,ULTRA-CHEAP quality. The needle is not balanced,so it heavy on one side, nearly touching the face designations.I would return it,....if there were not so many hoops to jump thru,to do so. Not worth the effort for the money spent. If the air bubble doesn't go away,..it's going in the trash basket. Very disappointed. Don't waste your money on this little piece of junk.......

Good quality, good price, good start.
Bought it for my 7 year old grandson. We're studying maps in home school and he found it exciting to follow directions with his compass. This is simple enough for him to be able to read and enjoy it, but functional enough to be accurate. Highly recommend for those starting out in directions and compass reading.

Will serve its purpose.
So far of my 15min of usage this shows accurately, & everything seems as it should be. Is small and it'll serves purpose...I had gotten a compass from somewhere else for free that compass didn't read correctly. Especially if you know the area in Which you live.. this one gratefully is accurate.

Not a very good compass unless you're standing perfectly still on flat land
Not a very good compass unless you're standing perfectly still on flat land. If it's even slightly tilted, the needle gets stuck giving an inaccurate reading. When flat, it gives you quick reading, but I found that you couldn't know for sure without playing with it some to make sure the needle wasn't stuck. If you just need it for general directions on land, it's probably worth it. If you need precise readings, or will be using it more often on a canoe or kayak, it might be better to look for a higher quality compass.

aiguille ne tien meme pas en équilibre et reste coincé ce qui fait quelle ne tourne pas et donc indique pas le nord, demander un échange et reçu une nouvelle avec le meme problème.
