Excellent book on being different. Case studies and the concepts are very distinct and provide excellent ideas.

1 page blog post = book?
Again... Seth takes 1 message (stop advertising, start innovating) and turns it into a book... most of the text is bulked out as filler and it's a really boring read!Tribes was the same, boring as hell! 1 point! This is an blog post, not a book.

More Great Insight from a Genius!
As always Seth Godin inspires with this book too! Social Media has and is revolutionizing the world, it allows everyone to express their uniqueness to the world. In this book Godin explains being weird in your own way allows you to join a tribe of like-minded people scattered all over the world. We are no longer going to be classified by nationalities but by tribes...the craft beer tribe, the herbal medicine tribe, the raw food tribe, the Manchester United fan club tribe, etc. This is a great insight into what really is happening in the world today. A quick but very inspiring read!

Very Interesting... A Bit Jargony, though...
The Purple Cow was recommended to me by a friend who was raving about it. I didn't get into it until page 40. After that it just kinda 'took off'. This book is not necessarily for people who don't have the first idea about marketing, but it does give the entrepreneur/business person some food for thought about how to make their business 'remarkable'. And as a UK reader, some of the companies mentioned didn't do a thing for me, but I had to get past all that to get the real meaning, hence the 4 stars.Despite all that, this book has given me some really good ideas for my own business. I had to 'think' way outside my comfort zone - mainly because Seth Godin doesn't give any advice, so I 'have to' think outside the box, excuse the cliche. He doesn't tell you what to do. There is no 7-point plan or secret to marketing success. He just tells you which marketing plan has worked and which hasn't. He talks about taking risks and not being afraid to be disliked in order to transform your business and become remarkable. If you're serious about running your business and you want to take a different approach, seriously consider buying this book.

Well worth reading
It’s so easy in business to market your products to as many people as possible, but by marketing a unique and remarkable product to a small group of converts will give you much greater results than the mass market approach.

Idea is good but book is now outdated
Let's get things clear from the start, the idea behind the book is a great one. Probably more so now than when the book was first written. This is a long essay rather than a full in depth text book and in my mind all the better for it. The points are set out in short, easy to read, sections (not chapters) and it makes for a book that you can read easily whilst grabbing a coffee, sitting on the train, etc without having to go back over several pages to remind of the idea that Seth is communicating. What does let the book down is its age. First published in 2002, it feels like it. The many, many business examples used talk about businesses that have been superseded by newer companies that have had their own purple cow moment. Some of the businesses had me searching the Internet to find out about them so I could understand the point Seth is trying to get across. This book needs a new edition with new examples that have more relevance today.
