Yes, these are markers and not actual brushes. And the color that comes out is more ink than it is paint. If you're looking for bristle-brushes that are loaded with paint, you're going to be disappointed with this product.That said, these are pretty darned cool markers. The felt tip is very large and very flexible, so you can get a massively thick line as well as a really thin line from the point. For a hand-letterer, that's a great combination to have! The colors are rich and heavy, and almost soak through my heavy cardstock when I make a really thick stroke.My biggest issue with them is that they dry out quickly -- a combination of just not holding that much ink, and the fact that there are holes in the caps so that you can't cap them airtight. But for my purposes, a drying-out marker has its own cool uses. I only wish black were included in the smaller pack! (It is included in the Crayola 40-Count Washable No Drip Paint Brush Pens package, which isn't 40 different colors; it's 5 packages of an 8-color set.)

Wer keine Lust hat Wasserfarben auf den Tisch zu stellen, der ist mit diesen Pinselstiften gut beraten. Sie malen allerdings sehr intensiv und mit viel Farbe - also wenn man gleich hinterher darüberwischt (wie das Kinder halt nun mal gerne machen), dann gibt es trotzdem etwas Sauerei.Aber die Stabilität hat mich überrascht, die Farben sind kräftig, wenn sie allerdings ineinander gemalt werden, sind die Pinselspitzen schnell etwas verdreckt. Stört aber die Kinder bei uns nicht wirklich.

Indeed another great Crayola product: my 4 and 6 year old really like using these brushes/pens and grab them for almost any picture they make. I like that it is mess free and easy to get ready, just pull of the lid! It is like a felt tip but works like a paint brush, therefore, pressing hard won't work although doing so does not seem to damage the brush much. Durability is reasonable and a bit like any felt tip; you need to put the lid back on after use.Always an added benefit to any toy: educational value. I believe this will help developing fine motor-skills. My youngest gets lovely pictures by gently handling the brush pen and making nice big shapes, the step before making nice small shapes, i.e. writing letters.
