Love this sketchbook to use with pens and ink.

Thins think is the perfect size and weight, for pencil and pen. Thick enough so that both sides are useful, and then enough so you don't feel like you are writing on cardboard.Writing surface is nice and smooth a well, giving good line quality.Also, I'm a huge fan on the binding on top, though I suppose it depends on how you sketch / write. The convenient thing of the binding on top is that it slides into a backpack easily, and the binding doesn't get bent.One thing ... the binding is NOT a coil. I actually miss the coil bindings (one piece of wire, wrapped into a helix), since they were much sturdier. Even if the coil got bent of bumped around, the pages still held together.

The smoothness and thickness of this paper is perfect for real art. There were no flecks of dark material in the paper, no smudges, and no roughness in the pages that would ruin a project with even light pressure. After a few random sketch pads from the local stores providing dreadfully poor quality paper, this was a welcome relief. Should have gone with Canson to begin with!Also, the size is great for a standard printer!

Im actually a long time user of canson art paper, specificly the product geared toward comic/manga. if u draw never skimp on the paper, it will save u money and possibly your work too. this paper is a decent weight for sketching and it can be erased a fair amount of times if u use a good one ( i prefer gum) and the hardcover looks super professional.

A gift for our grandson. He loves it.
