Product Description Since his first Earwig release 19 years ago, the Jelly Roll Kings, Rockin' the Juke Joint Down (4901), Big Jack Johnson has gone on to increasing world-wide acclaim. His previous Earwig recordings garnered four stars in Rolling Stone and Downbeat. In 1996 Jack received the Living Blues Award as Best Live Performer. With his non-stop touring, he now rivals B.B. King for most shows in one year. This new release captures Big Jack at his awesome, raw peak with the Aron Burton Blues Band, with Mad Dog Lester Davenport on harmonica. Review Live in Chicago was recorded at two shows, one at the Hothouse in 1994, the other at Buddy Guy's Legends in 1995.... The sound varies between the two venues, with inferior recording equipment giving the Hothouse sides a slightly muddy quality. And the audience is mixed too far down throughout the disc, resulting in an almost total loss of the ambience of a live recording. Still, everything is listenable.... With a vocal and guitar style rooted in the blues of the contemporary Mississippi Delta ... [this album] faithfully documents a couple of performances that left no style untouched. --Living Blues

Great Live Blues
Jack Johnson was a once-in-a-generation talent. He was an incredibly dynamic live performer. For those that weren't lucky enough to see him live, you owe it to yourself to pick up this CD. Well, the same is also true for those that were lucky enough to see him live. This is a necessary blues album to own.

Happy with purchased item and delivery
I love live music and this is one of the best - Big Jack Johnson live is totally enjoyable. I've been trying to coordinate my travel with Big Jack's appearances but have not had any luck, so this is the next best thing.

Great CD from a little known genius
Excellent music (his version of "Night Train" is one of the best I've ever heard) by an excellent musician. You can really hear how timeless the blues is in this album. Get it if you enjoy Albert King or Buddy Guy and you won't be dissapointed!

"Live in Chicago" by a True Mississippi Musician
This is an excellent CD. Big Jack Johnson wrote several cuts on the CD and puts his signature on the rest. Big Jack was an excellent musician, composer, and vocalist. His guitar work here is superb, and the tone he achieves is delivered through his skills and not through electronics. The sound is a true melding of the "voices" of Big Jack Johnson's vocal cords and of his guitar. While the title is "Live in Chicago," with backing from a strong Chicago crew, the music is strongly influenced by Big Jack's Mississippi upbringing.I do not find a thing wrong with the audio quality of this live set. Live CDs often DO suffer from sound quality issues, but on this one, the sound is actually quite good.Anyone interested in some real blues delivered by a true Mississippi musician should buy this "Live in Chicago" CD. It offers a really great set of music, and it's one I often play - over and over again.
