"..BRILLIANT GAME.."
Mafia definitive edition is a fantastic game, the remaster looks absolutely stunning graphicly, it looks like your playing a brand new game, whether you've played it before or your new to the series its worth every penny, I played it back on the original Xbox and loved playing back through this story once more, the game has great pace with its story slowly building your character as you get introduced into your new crime family, all the characters in the game are great, you get to like all of them, there are many cool levels throughout the game at least 10-12 hours worth depending on your difficulty too ranging from Easy to Hard. You will go on many missions from collecting money up to assassination level killings, bank robbery, going undercover and straight up gangster style beatings with baseball bats, the game is very violent and plays out with as much class as a Scorsese movie! I highly recommend it for the amazing movie style story and the fantastic characters and addictive gameplay, a must buy even if you have the original version. You can play from Easy (not too much of a challenge for casual gamers) to Hard (Slightly more of a challenge, less risks and more stealth) after the game has finished you can enter Free mode where you can freely explore the map in your own time (good for finishing the collectable chains)there are many collectables hidden throughout the map in the form of cigarette cards, comics, magazines, some you will need to find during the mission chapters and most are hidden around the free play.Chapters are re-playable in any order once you complete the game. You will rack up plenty Gamerscore on one play through especially if you find all the collectables. The game comes with a nice slipcase too (while stocks last I assume)

Storytelling is key
My first experience of Mafia was on the Xbox 360 with Mafia II which I found to be somewhat of an underrated gem. Mafia: Definitive Edition follows many mechanics in terms of the combat that was seen in Mafia 3 - which turned out to be a repetitive disappointment that was loaded with bugs and thankfully that is not the case here.I never played the original but the remake seems pretty impressive all around graphically and the story is very good while it lasts. The game is not really that lengthy but it follows a very linear path which is actually welcome in an age of gaming that is filled with so much padding and generally tedious fetch quests. There are some collectibles to find such as cigarette cards and secret cars but it is the story that is the main hook as it should be.Mafia sees you in the role of Tommy Angelo who is thrust into the underworld and his character development throughout the story is interesting. I see that there has been some complaints over the driving sections but I found the cars to be relatively fine to handle. The motorcycles are extremely stiff on the other hand but can be handled okay if with care and you also have the option of turning a speed limiter on which can help if you want to avoid cop chases. You can actually set how aggressive you want the cops to be which is a neat touch.---Summary--- (Marked out of 10)Graphics - 9 - Very good at times, in cutscenes especially, and with nice rain effects but unfortunately some 2K jankiness such as pop in does persist.Sound - 9 - The voice acting is outstanding and really helps pull you in to the story. There is also some music which fits with the theme interspersed with news commentary.Gameplay -8- If you've played any other Mafia game and especially Mafia 3 you'll know what to expect. It's generally satisfying if uninspired.Lifespan -4- Mafia is quite short and there honestly isn't a lot of reason to go back to it once you're done.---Verdict---Mafia: Definitive Edition really does play like a good mobster movie. I enjoyed my time with it and found it to be far more enjoyable in substance than Mafia 3 with all its bugs and its filler. There is no rubbish to extend the game here and it is good while it lasts. I'd recommend if in a sale but the story is the best part about the game and it is one of the better ones (although not perfect) in a genre that like gaming itself has become increasingly stale.
