Great photos and info
Everything about this book is amazing except there are no common names listed and you have to sort through the whole description to find out if the mushroom is edible, not edible, toxic, or poisonous. Some are never described as whether you can consume them and you have to do separate research to find out. The descriptions are fantastic and very detailed, the pictures are beautiful, and I love how the book it sorted by terrains.

Best Rocky Mountain Mushroom Book out there!
This is one of two excellent mushroom guide books for the Rocky Mountain Region and in my case, Colorado. The only other field guide that comes close is the book titled "Mushrooms of the Rocky Mountain Region: Timber Press Field Guide (A Timber Press Field Guide)", which is also authored by Vera S. Evenson from the Denver Botanical Gardens. In my opinion the two are complimentary guides and the best i have found for our region.*This books main strength lies in the fact that it is arranged *BY HABITAT*. For those of us who are new to mushroom hunting this is the best one for me as i can pick habitat areas to forage in for the mushrooms i am looking for. Excellent guide, can't recommend a better book, except for maybe the other one i mentioned above already. I disagree with one of the other reviews that gave only one star, this book is exactly the book for a beginner like me, and near the end of each segment it tells whether they are toxic or not.

This was the missing link I was looking for concerning ...
This was the missing link I was looking for concerning the types of terrain and trees to look for when foraging for mushrooms in the mountains. If you are looking for a beginning mushrooming book concerning what is edible or not, this is not the book for you !!! This book is a very well rounded book for the whole ecology of the Rocky Mountains and the mushrooms that grow there so if your interests in mycology involve seeing the big picture of things, this book is for you :)

Not relevant to New Mexico
Extensive, but I couldn't identify more than one or two of 20+ mushrooms I've photographed in New Mexico.

Great guide for Montana mushrooms
Great book for Montana! I am an avid mushroom hunter. I've used the materials in this book to help me identify several Montana edible mushrooms. I wouldn't plan on using this guide solely but it's a wonderful reference.

It's good for identifying
This book describes the mushrooms very well and the pictures are good but I thought it would tell you if they were poisonous/ medicinal/ edible etc and it did not.

Not for a forager
The description of this book is outright incorrect. It states "including each species' edibility, odor, taste, and rumored medicinal properties" but it does not include those details for every entry. Sadly I didn't read the other comments on this book before I bought, to discover all the low ratings are indeed correct that this is not a good foraging book. Along with other issues mentioned, there are not enough photos of the mushrooms for identification.
