Bob Dustrude's Quick Buck Saw 30" - Folding Camp Bow Saw

I can't believe it took me all these years to finally find the perfect portable bucksaw. I've seen other folding bucksaws, and have always loved the concept. But none of them were ever close to perfect.This saw has everything I wanted in a packable bucksaw:1. It's not triangular, it's wide open like a non-folding buck saw.2. It comes in a 30" version3. It is simple. Less moving parts means less parts to lose.4. Less moving parts mean less weight.5. The blade stores safely in spine when folded so you don't have to worry about it cutting your pack.An unexpected bonus I didn't expect is that when that wood piece flips around into the pivot arm to snap into place and create the tension, it makes a handle just as comfortable as my standard, non-folding, non-packable bucksaw. I would have understood if you had to sacrifice a little comfort to be able to saw 8" logs 60 miles into the back country. But you don't. The only thing this doesn't have that my standard bucksaw does is that plastic "trigger gaurd" type piece that prevents you from smashing your hand into the log you're sawing at the time. That's totally understandable given the requirements of being folding, simple, lightweight, and rugged.I think that the only way you could improve this saw is if you made the spine out of Titanium. There is a lot tension on that square, C-channel piece, so I could see if you ever dropped something on it and slightly bent one of the sides of this aluminum C-channel, it might be enough to make it fail. Titanium is more resistant to this type of damage. But hey, I've only used this saw a couple of times. So it might take years of abuse, and if so, the only criticism I could think of would be null and void. And if you treat it with the care most tools require, it also should never be a problem.

It is light weight, easy to assemble and able to cut larger diameter logs without difficulty. The saw is awesome!

Best saw ever!

Being an avid backpacker and woodsman, I can say with total honesty that this product absolutely exceeded my expectations. I’ve owned it for two years now and have used it in all seasons. It’s very light weight, durable, and when fully assembled, it’s rigid with no slop. When packed, the blade faces inward so it can be stowed within your pack without harming anything else within, or stowed externally and won’t easily be caught on branches or brush. I’ve only needed to replace the blade once so far so you needn’t worry about the quality of the one that comes with it. The only thing I desire more about this is I wish it came with some kind of external loop on the main bracing so it can be more easily attached to the outside of my pack. Outside of this minor critique, I whole heartedly recommend this to any camper, backpacker, or really anyone that requires a lightweight saw for processing wood.
