It's a magic time.....
As Christmas 1949 comes along, Peggy & Able decide to close their cafe for 3 weeks over the Christmas period. During this time, Janet had been worrying about her husband might have gone off her after she had been through a couple of miscarriages and been miserable with everyone. He decides to take her and Maggie to Scotland for Christmas.Peggy upset a little as she was going to visit Janet, who decided to go en famille and return to Mulberry Lane instead. Then plans are afoot... Peggy is after a return, and her daughter Fay wants to be an ice skater. How will it come about? There is also more drama with Rose & Tom. After she catches the eye of a costermonger in the pre Christmas rush.Love the characters and looking forward to reading more about them.

Another great read from Rosie Clarke. I loved the way the story pans out. A real feel good book, the characters feel almost like old friends. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Not Up To Books 1 to 5 In Series
As several other reviewers have stated already, this book (No.6 in series) not up to the standard of the previous 5.I found lots of facts were wrong, for examples , the distances mentioned about the new cottage for Janet and her family was said to be an hour and a half away from where they spent Christmas near Loch Ness and it wasn't , and when Peggy and family moved back to Mulberry Lane they were travelling overnight from Devon to London yet even with breaks and a sleep in the car they didn't reach London til dusk the next day! Also all the main characters seem to have become relatively well off almost overnight! All in all rather a disappointing read but hopefully the last book in the series will be back to usual standard.

Disappointing, but worth a read anyway...
I loved all of the 5 previous books in this saga, however this has been the weakest one so far. A lack of continuity from previous books (Roses' daughters name was supposed to be Molly, but is now mysteriously Jenny) and someone has clearly not proof read correctly: Torquay and Truro are casually swapped after a few chapters, there is no way you would drive to Truro from just outside Torquay to go ice skating in the 50's! It's a little picky of me, but also irritating to read errors when I feel as though I've invested alot of time in the characters so far. The storyline was weak and it just feels as though it was a rushed effort. A shame really, but I still enjoyed finding out how all the characters were fairing after the War.

Heartfelt story, giving an historically accurate look at women's lives in London during WWII
I love reading the Mulberry Lane series. It tells of life in London during WWII and holds your interest by not allowing you to 'guess' the plot of the story. In a heartwarming way it tells you what life was like back in the 40's for women of many generations, showing life just as my dear Mum often spoke about, with the lack of rights for women and how they were controlled by unwritten rules within families, that women in the 1940'S had to bide by. There is also an awareness of the British class system and again the unwritten rules that came with it.
