Gene Kelly paired up with animation powerhouses (and familiar friends) William Hanna and Joe Barbera to produce this magical, musical blend of live action and animation that's Chock-full of showstoppers courtesy of composers James Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. Gene is on hand to lend his voice and dance to the proceedings as Jeremy, the magical bean seller. Bobby Riha debuts as young Jack, while Ted Cassidy lends his voice to the Giant. With help from costume design courtesy of Alex Toth, production design by Theobold Holsapple and Hal Mohr handling the camera for the live-action sequences the viewers’ disbelief is charmingly suspended with delight. And Gene’s song and dance numbers don’t hurt!

Still Good 20 Years Later
Even growing up in the 80s, my childhood entertainment exposure was saturated with classic movies, and this rare gem from Gene Kelly offered signature melodies, fun choreography, and a bonus, G-rated love interest in the storyline. Even throughout twenty years of having no access to the movie, the film's imagery of the beanstalk immediately came to my mind upon mention of Jack and the giant. Love it. I only wish that the original soundtrack were available in an updated format, particularly the song "One Starry Moment," which I have been humming ever since I ordered it from Amazon. If you aim to offer children a healthier diet of entertainment than is generally available these days, I highly recommend this movie.

This is a wonderful little movie made by Hanna-Barbera for television in 1967
This is a wonderful little movie made by Hanna-Barbera for television in 1967. It features Gene Kelly and combines animation and live-action. This is the third time Mr. Kelly takes part in this kind of movies (after Anchors Aweigh and Invitation to the Dance) and ,although the animation is not as lavish as in those movies (because of the TV budget) , it is highly recommended for both children and nostalgic adults ... and features many delightful songs .

Lots of singing & dancing.
Bought this movie for my 4 and 6 year old Grandsons. I watched it first to make sure there was nothing scary about it. (The Giant)A lot of singing & dancing and cute story telling. We enjoyed watching it together.

What Does a Woggle Bird Do?
Jack and the Beanstalk was a break-through in animation mixed with live action. Even though it was made for TV, they did not stint on the effects available at the time. If anyone has not seen Gene Kelly dance and sing with the Woggle Birds, this should go on the mandatory viewing list.

Wonderful Family Viewing.
Remember seeing this as a child and still good today. It does need some cleaning up but don’t let that put you off. At just under an hour - great fun. Super to see the marvellous Gene Kelly strutting his stuff. What a talent.
