This leaked during shipping because the lid was no on firmly. Fortunately it was a sealed envelope so it didn't leak out, but there was a very strong smell when the package was opened and I had to carefully clean the jar. I used it anyway.It isn't a paste - it is a suspension in oil. After a day or so it will separate, with the top 50% being fairly clear oil and the bottom 50% being a thin mixture of oil and spices. I have to shake/stir each use.The flavor is of strong roasted chili with a sharp edge. It need something to take the edge off - perhaps the thing it's being added to - but it isn't a simple matter of adding some of this to rice, pasta, or ground beef to get a rich flavor. It can be an important flavor, but no on it's own. I didn't sense much garlic at all.

I used this for the first time today and the taste is good. It truly is pretty spicy. I have to watch how much I use next time since it made my nose run like crazy. Lol.

The label points to a use-by date on the bottle's lid but no such date is present. This presents a potential food-safety hazard. Compounding this is the adhesive used to seal the bottle, which can easily be detached and resealed. Thus, product tampering cannot be ruled out. Finally, when opening the bottle there was no sound indicating a pressure difference. Therefore, there is no evidence that the bottle's seal was intact. These three problems add up to a significant potential food safety risk. USE AT YOUR RISK!As a food item, this product, when opened, is non-refundable even under Amazon's generally liberal return standards.A minor issue by comparison is the absence of guidelines for use. It would be helpful to know the range of product amounts typically appropriate for various numbers of servings. Also helpful would be suggested uses or pointers to a website providing recipes. None of these is present.
