Sometimes the Truth hurts - Take control of your life
This is a great book for anyone who wants to become better at whatever they do. In it, Larry teaches simple lessons that almost anyone can apply to themselves and their lives. The underlying message? Take personal ownership and responsibility for your life, your actions and your dreams. Take pride in what you do and how you do it and you will be successful. Larry didn't really teach me anything in this book that I didn't already know. It took him and his book however to bring it back to me as over the years I had let many of the basic truths it presents, slip away. I had become something of a whiner and a complainer. I slacked off at my job. I was not the shining example of the person I wanted to be or wanted others to see me as. And sadly, I don't think many of you are any different. That's why so you few people are living the lives they really want. The good news? We all have the power to change and reset our compasses and our lives. I'm lucky that I still have a very good job, home, family, friends etc. I am making it my mission to be the person I've always wanted to be. And for that I owe a thank you to Larry and his book for "waking me up". Larry talks tough and direct and if you aren't really ready to look yourself in the mirror and see flaws and problems, you probably won't like the book. If you're ready for honest self evaluation and self improvement, pick up a copy today.

Look out! NOT geared 100% towards business owners!
Howdy! :-)This review is geared towards entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses...I've read "People Are Idiots" and "You're Broke Because You Want To Be." I gave both of those 4-stars. They are EXCELLENT books. If they were both whittled down to the key points and combined into a single book, it would be 5-stars for sure and rank up there with the best business books of all time. They fall just short because of too much repetition and a few contradictory points. The reason I only gave this one 3-stars and not 4 is because it's written for an EMPLOYEE to read -- at least mainly. And seriously, what kind of an employee is going to pick up a book that's main message is, "You suck. The guy you work for is awesome, so get off your butt, show up on time, do more than you are required, and accept it" ???Of course Larry gears a few chapters towards BUSINESS OWNERS which is great, but again I was surprised how much pulp he dedicated toward speaking to the lazy employee. It's like he has a chip on his shoulder and an axe to grind with lazy employees, but seriously would they even read this? Unless the audiobook version is PUMPING through the business P.A. sound system all day long, I guarantee employee will not read or even listen to this. I don't know why he spent so much time speaking to an audience that isn't there! If you are an entrepreneur looking to grow your business, pick this book up and read the EMPLOYER chapters very closely, but skim through the EMPLOYEE chapters. If you are new to Larry Winget and you are a business owner and your business is stuck, I would actually suggest starting with "People Are Idiots".Thank you :-)

Exactly what I was looking for.
This is not the typical run-of-the-mill business book people read in order to feel superior. Books like that tell us something we already know (or think we know) so we can get a warm fuzzy feeling and also a false sense of productivity as we go back to exactly what we were doing before we cracked open the cover. This book does something different. It delivers a massive verbal kick in the tush.I have three jobs (two of which are in businesses I own) and speak from experience when I say pain is the best teacher. It gets our attention. It makes us question our assumptions. It makes us stop whining and focus on what's really important, which generally isn't the thing we're whining about. It shows us areas where something is not right. It makes us confront what we're doing, versus what we think we're doing, and it reinforces the relationship between cause and effect. Finally, it gives us an incentive to identify what is causing the pain and fix the problem. So, when things aren't going well for me, the best thing I can do for myself is to arrange to receive some kind of butt-kicking.While bad things definitely happen that can't be predicted or prevented, and while it's sometimes impossible to fix problems overnight if they've been brewing for years, we do have a surprising amount of influence over our environment.

Common Sense Reminder
I bought this book because it looked interesting and educational. I wasn't disappointed. While most of the ideas presented are common sense, they are principals that we forget to live. Larry Winget reminds us to live those principals and, no, it is not a gentle reminder. This book addresses poor performance by employees, shoddy customer service, unethical behavior, and personal success at work. His continuous reminder that the customer pays every employee's salary by patronizing the business is one that few employees remember as evidenced by the bad service we often get. His examples will touch a nerve with most anyone who has ever eaten out or made a retail purchase. The book gives suggestions for improving your own performance at work and evaluating your work environment. It gives common sense sales suggestions and stresses the importance of results. The book has suggestions and principals for both employees and employers that could translate into improved relationships and better sales. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to achieve success in business.

Great book
This should be required reading for every new employee of a company. Today no one seems to want to work and actually earn their paycheck. I got this book for my early teen to read but as usual I read it first. There is a lot of foul language in this book that some of his others don't have. It will give me an opportunity to discuss this with him as he reads it and that it is not appropriate language to use. Probably nothing he hasn't heard before with being in school. This is an excellent book to teach good work ethics.

A Must for freelancers, leaders and high position workers
I read this great book for the first time in Bulgarian and now that I had the chance through Amazon, I ordered it in the original too. I find it highly inspiring, morally right, motivating and full of hands-on tips for being a better leader, worker, and person. It has given me a few invaluable tips for my newly budding freelance business. I'd recommend it to every freelancer or anyone with a leadership position.
