It's a true 18 X 30. And it's very thick. However, what's most interesting is the weave. The reverse-side pattern is long, tightly woven rope-like stripes that hold the majority of the rug up out of the water. The top side is very bristly and cleans the shoes well. It's nice and heavy, stiff and won't blow away. Like all natural materials it does have a slight natural scent but as this is an outdoor rug it's no biggie. These are the best mats for keeping dirt out of your house and off your floor. Anybody that has them will tell you this. Sweep under them once in a while, because the dirt falls through. It is so satisfying not to have to sweep that dirt off the inside floors!!!!! These mats are hard to find in stores, and they are always sold out quickly when they are put up for sale. So Im glad I got a new one. They last for years.

The fibers and loops of the weave stick up so they do a great job of cleaning sandy dirt off my shoes after working in the yard. I like that the dirt falls through so I can sweep it up without it building up in the mat. I also like the look of the weave. The price seems a bit high, but then I wouldn't want to make it myself for less. I hope that a good dose of the price goes to the craftsman who wove it.

I've only had this mat for about 3 months, but can say it's held up extremely well being placed outside on my deck ever since. It has been constantly exposed to the weather elements and still looks great! I have not taken it inside at all to dry out, etc. and I've had TONS of rain past few months since purchasing this item. It is a bit lightweight compared to other outdoor mats I've had. But, I feel this is an advantage as it doesn't absorb as much water as the "heavier" more expensive mats. The water seems to escape more easily and therefore keeps the mat from getting super soggy versus others I've had in the past. The weave seems to be durable so far and great for scraping dirt & mud off your shoes before entering the home. I gave it 4 star rating as again I haven't had it for TOO long of a period, but think so far its an excellent buy!

First of all, this doormat does not shed which I like. I have them on my front porch as well as two patio entry doors to the house. The surface is rough enough to clean your shoes when you wipe your feet. They shake out or brush off easily. They will withstand rain and I dry them out in the sun, but I try to bring them into the garage if we're expecting a big storm. I imagine they will last longer this way.

When we researched for a good doormat, many reviewers raved about the water absorbency of this doormat. We bought it but discovered that this characteristic is not suitable for the outdoor. Whenever it rains, this doormat soaks up water. The mat is thick so it will take days to dry. What this means is even after the rain has stopped, we continue to track water into the house since the mat would be soaking wet. It's so annoying that I have to move it out of the way every time it gets wet. Maybe it will behave better during the sunny days in the summer, but we are not there yet.
