OK, I bought a couple of these on Amazon for $12.95 per bottle a few months ago. And they work fine. I especially like that they contain apple cider vinegar, which is another essential weight control (and overall health) item. I came back to buy more, and now they want $29.95 per bottle! No, I will not pay an additional $17 per bottle. Luckily, there are many variations of this product on Amazon to choose from.

If you have read any of my previous reviews, I want to know exactly what I am taking. The label states "Proprietary Blend 1500mg" of White Kidney Bean Extract, Apple Cider Vinegar, Gymnema Sylvestre, Cascara Sagrada, Garcinia Cambogia Extract, Chitosan, and Aloe Vera. I have no idea how much of each of these ingredients are present. Is there 25mg or 1000mg of White Kidney Bean Extract in a serving? The word "proprietary" is commonly used with supplement products to evade transparency and thus causes a lack of trust with me.Starch carbohydrates (potatoes, pasta, legumes, grains, etc.) are digested in your mouth and small intestines, and not so much in your stomach, as one might believe. When you eat starches, the actual digestion begins in your mouth. As you chew, the saliva glands in your mouth release the digestive enzyme alpha-amylase, beginning the breakdown (hydrolyzing) of the starch into simple sugars. But, alpha-amylase is neutralized by the stomach's high pH level. Significant digestion does not occur again until the pancreas releases more alpha-amylase, restarting the hydrolysis within the small intestine.White Kidney Bean Extract has been shown to inhibit the pancreas from releasing alpha-amylase. In effect, it's blocking the enzyme required for starch digestion within the small intestine. When this occurs, the starches pass undigested to the large intestine, where they ferment. This fermentation can cause gas, bloating, and possibly diarrhea.I suspect the reason this product contains laxatives (Cascara Sagrada and Aloe Vera extract) is to make sure the undigested starches do not remain too long within the large intestines, an attempt at minimizing flatulence. But, the label clearly states "Do not exceed recommended dose. This product contains Cascara Sagrada". That is a warning because Cascara Sagrada *is* a laxative, and if you take too much, you are going to crap your pants.Cascara Sagrada and Aloe Vera extract can be an ingredient within a supplement, but not used as a drug for treatment. Supplements have lower safety and efficacy thresholds within the FDA. The reason I mention this is because Cascara Sagrada was an over-the-counter laxative until the FDA banned it's use as specifically as a laxative. And I quote the FDA... "SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is issuing a final rule stating that the stimulant laxative ingredients aloe (including aloe extract and aloe flower extract) and cascara sagrada (including casanthranol, cascara fluidextract aromatic, cascara sagrada bark, cascara sagrada extract, and cascara sagrada fluidextract) in over-the-counter (OTC) drug products are not generally recognized as safe and effective or are misbranded. This final rule is part of FDA's ongoing OTC drug product review.
