1k Shorty Dive Light

Good for me.
Worked well for me on six dives so far, max depth 116'. The light is very negatively bouyant. I replaced the supplied alkaline batteries with 2600MAH rechargable NiMH from Batteries Plus. Those delivered one good dive per charge, with significant (~50% hockey-stick) apparent intensity drop-off after 40+ minutes. The three batteries nest very tightly into a cage that removes fairly easily from the body tube, but the batteries are tedious to change out on a pitching boat, so I ordered a second cage and will in the future just swap cages between dives, then at end of day extract batteries for recharging. DRIS was happy to send me the second cage but I had to phone them and wait for their counter-person to finish with in-person customers, then he looked up the item and took my payment, which was $5 for the part and $5.60 shipping, arriving promptly. I hoped they would make it available on their website, but they responded to my question on their site with, "The 3-battery holder for the 1k Shorty is not a normal product. However, they are sometimes available (i.e. if you receive a light damaged during shipment) for $10. You can give us a call at the shop for availability at 815-267-8400." Now I wish I'd ordered two instead of just one, considering the amount of shipping and the possible unavailability in the future. See DRIS's website's FAQ for more good details, which I hope they will continue to expand.Of course, as soon as I got back from my dive trip, a guy at work showed me a dive light that has double the output, with three LEDs and multi-modes (strobe, etc), and cost less. But it was larger and didn't have any reviews, so I decided to not have buyer's remorse. In any case, dive-light tech has been advancing quickly since LED's took over and obsolescence will inevitably be one price of deciding what to purchase.

Big things come in a small package
Really bright, really long through. Works great on land, anxious to see how it works underwater.

EXTREMELY BRIGHT!
Love it extremely bright. Haven't tried it in the water yet, but I'm sure it will work great.

Do not store it assembled for long periods of time
Used it as a dive light. Performed very wellI also use it for may main source of emergency and security light at homeIf left stored and assembled with batteries, for more than a few weeks, the battery holder, due to electric current, corrodes to failure. Replacement is expensive. I have had the light for several years, and gone through 3 battery holders.

Bright, a bit heavy.
Good little light, turn it on before you enter. Best with the top-hand glove as the wand base is “short!”, a wee heavy for its power, but not a bad set up.
