delicate, whirling
This is what I wish Thom Yorke did with his solo projects. Dare's voice is clear and strong, yet often tremulous. This fits with the softness of the songs and their subject matter. When he does raise his voice, it's hypnotizing, especially with the circling piano and drums under it. One of my favorite albums of the year.

Dare Overwhelms.
Yeah, I said it. Saw Douglas in concert at one of his first US shows and was completely smitten. A voice and a style that are truly his own, moody and intellectual at the same time, Whelm will leave you wanting more.

Just gorgeous
An absolutely beautiful album, full of emotional songs, well written and sung with plaintive vocals and beautiful piano. You can feel the emotion in Douglas's voice. For me there are no weak songs, favourites of mine are the utterly gorgeous 'Nile' and the tender 'Caroline'. Douglas's lyric booklet that comes with the album is described as '9 poems' and that is apt. This is highly recommended.

Super Platte, Pressung eher weniger...

Tolles Debutalbum
Wer Antony & The Johnsons, Rufus Wainwright mag, wird Douglas Dare lieben.
