This has always been my favorite Grendel arc
I remember reading this in middle school when it first came out. It was the first Grendel story I had ever read. My young eyes were scandalized by the images of gore and nudity, especially since the only comics I had read before were Superman, The Flash, and Uncanny X-Men. I was immediately hooked after the first issue. This has always been my favorite Grendel arc. Glad I was able to find it as an omnibus to read again 25+ years later.

Diluted over time
Wagner's installments around Grendel Prime were weaker than the other three omnibuses as the further Grendel moved into the future, the less and less clear what the purpose of Grendel was and how it had any tie even to Wagner's earlier work with Grendel as a spirit of aggression. The novel "Past Prime" fills out the decline of Jupiter Assante, but it writing weaknesses are more apparent in novel form. The first cycle, "War Child," is interesting And reads well and quickly but is not as interesting as earlier Grendel cycles either. It just seemed that Wagner had a lot of ideas and this caused the series to lose focus over time.

Smaller format
Looooong time Grendel fan, so love this. Only complaint is it is smaller format than regular comic books so pictures/ panels and print are smaller. Vivat Grendel!!

Bad text novel sinks final volume of Grendel Omnibus series
The fourth volume of the Grendel Omnibus series was a major disappointment The main character,Grendel Prime, is a killer cyborg who is uninteresting as a protagonist was the text novel by Rucka As a novelist ,Rucka makes a good comic book writer The novel is poorly written on a stylisitc level is padded with verbiage that has no purpose and so uncompelling I had trouble staying awake The comics get a 4 but this horrid novel gets a 1 dropping the volume 2 This volume would be better without thenovel which should never have been written and replaced with the two Batman vs Grendel graphic novels This volume is for Grendel completists only

Nothing but Prime!
War Child tpb was the 1st Grendel comic I read. Big fan of Grendel Prime stories. Never read any of the Hunter Rose or his offspring's stories, except the Batman crossover, can't compare this with others. Sorry. If you are a Grendel Prime fan this is a must have! Nothing but Prime. Only way to make this better is the Batman crossover.

Good eyesight a must.
I really loved the grendel series, and bought the omnibus editions as soon as they came out. Overall, I'm pleased with them but they're printed in kind of a small format for such a text heavy graphic novel. The text can be a bit hard to read in places, and/or hard on the eyes.Still, if you loved the series but weren't able to collect it all, these may be for you.
