Goodbye baby gate!
Good Bye baby gate! I was so excited to order this item. Since 2003 I have been using a swing baby gate to keep our dogs out of the office where we keep the cat food and upstairs litter box. We have 5 foster failure kitties and 1 dog we rescued. Our cats range in size from 8lbs to 15lbs, so I knew I would need to use the largest attachment for the door. Our dog is old, and large-she is at least 60-70lbs so I know she will not fit through the door with the largest attachment. After our last dog passed away, I tried removing the baby gate, thinking our dog is older now and knows to stay out of the office-but I feed the cats prescription can food twice a day and that was all too tempting for our dog! The prescription can and dry food is way too expensive for the dog to be munching on! The baby gate did the trick, but its annoying when I am vacuuming and moping the floors because the gate doesn't stay open. Since the cats would pass underneath, cat hair would also collect on the bottom of the gate-gross! So I did some exploring and found this product and thought I would give it a try. It was super easy to install-it took maybe 5-10mins. It does require one screw to go into the trim, but this obviously was a big deal for me since I already had holes for the baby gate and I know that if I ever remove it I can just fill in the hole with wood fillers and touch up the paint. My only complaint is that I need two hands to close the door. I don't know if this is typical, however when I shut the door the attachment is a hair to low and I have to lift it up in order for the door knob to engage and click shut. If I don't lift the attachment, the door can be pushed open. I tried playing around with it, I don't understand why I have to lift it. Maybe because I had to use the cushions when I attached the piece to the trim?? After using the baby gate for over 13 years, its an adjustment not being able to see in the room. However, with that being said, I have one cat that likes to pick on the other cats and is territorial. If she sees another cat wanting to get in the office, or if she sees there is a cat already in the office she would sit right by the gate to prevent the other cats from passing. If they tried going in or out of the room she will chase them. So this might help prevent some of the "stalking" she does since there is not a clear shot into the room. Overall I think I am going to love this much better than the baby gate. So far it seems like all the cats can fit through-however I just installed it so I haven't seen our largest cat go into the room yet. This is a great option instead of using baby gates, or installing a cat door-like we did to the door in our kitchen that leads to the basement. I would have given it 5 stars if I did not need to use both hands to shut the door and get the attachment to engage to keep the door from opening.I attached pictures of the baby gate we had previously to installing the product, as well as pictures showing one of our cats passing through the door and how the product looks after I installed it.

The Latch'nVent is great. The only thing that is keeping it from five stars is the fact you have to drill an additional hole into the trim around the door for the third mounting screw. Another minor complaint is that the Phillips head screws for the three fasteners were an unusual size. A P-2 (regular size) driver was too big and a P-1 (small size) was too small. Since it installed easily the first time, I'm not going to complain too much.It installed easily even into our 1950's house's door frame and knob/latch. You have to remove the original metal latch plate and install the provided new plastic piece that also works as the base for the extensions. In our case, the medium 3" extension works great to allow the cat to move through the opening while our Boston Terrier and Greyhound stayed on one side.Opening and closing the door works great since the door latch now engages with the extension instead of the door jam. You will still have the extension sticking out when you open the door. They are remarkably sturdy when you run into them in the night... To close the door fully, you will need to release the extension (easy to do) and set it aside.

Perfect!
Exactly what we needed. I work from home and I don't want my toddler getting in my home office and messing anything up. But that room is also where my cat eats and sleeps, so he needed access. The pressure mounted baby gates are no longer a match for my daughter, and I didn't want to spend the time, money or the destruction to the door to put in a cat door. This is absolutely perfect. My kitty is a big boy (about 16 lbs), so we use the longest extension, but honestly even the middle size would probably work, cats are good at squishing. It's something I can use to keep my kid out whether I am in the room or not and it was quick and easy to install with minimal damage (just a small screw hole on the room-side of the door frame). My only issue is, without the extension on, I cannot close the door fully, the new screws where the strike plate used to be gets in the way. However this might be ok if I tried screwing the screws in more. But even if not, it's not a big deal to me. We rarely have to lock the cat IN the room, and if we did we could either use a different room, or even use the smallest arm, I really don't think he could fit through that space.

Finally something that works
Without a doubt the best way to prop open doors for pet owners. I have a coat closet converted into a litter box room for my cats. I have tried so many different products over the last two years and nothing worked quite like I wanted it to until I discovered this. The middle-sized insert keeps the door open just enough for my cats to fit through and opens just like a regular door handle would when I need to get in there. I also bought a second one for my mother to keep her dogs out of the litter box and cat food.As far as insert sizing goes, I have two 10-12 pound cats and the middle size is perfect for them, but if you have much bigger cats you'll probably need to use the larger insert. The smallest size is too small for most pets, so it comes in handy when you just want airflow without the door being completely open. The inserts are super easy to switch out when needed. It was a lot easier and quicker to install than I expected. It has grooves in the striker plate so you can cut the width down with scissors if it's too wide to fit your door. It was too wide for mine and cutting it down to the right size took just a few seconds.
