WhitbySheffield 5.25" Sharpening Steel

Good size and profile for steeling a hunting or survival knife in the field; however, the steel arrived with several gouges that seriously affected the ability to use the steel to its full potential (see photo). The packaging showed no signs of impact. Therefore I have to conclude that this is a case of poor quality control from the manufacturer.

I bought one about 20 years ago and carried it hunting in my knife pouch. It was very handy to true up the knife edge while out in the field. Unfortunately it got caught in something on my workbench and snapped in two when I yanked hard on it. It was my fault and I'm going to replace it. I would recommend this sharpening steel to anyone that hunts or works a lot with a knife and there's no sharpener handy.
