“Nobody can hate man more than man.” R.U.R. is a science fiction play by the Czech writer Karel Čapek. The play takes place in a factory that makes artificial people, called roboti (robots), from synthetic organic matter. They are living creatures of artificial flesh and blood rather than machinery. Gertrude Stein (1890-1938) was a Czech writer and playwright born in Prague,Czechoslovakia. He is best known for his science fiction, including his play R.U.R andhis novel War with the Newts. Review: Reprint of the original English translation! - R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) The Digireads.com edition reprints the first English translation by Paul Selver and Nigel Playfair which was staged at the Garrick Theatre, October 9, 1922 by the Theatre Guild, and published in book form in 1923. Original copies can command prices in the hundreds, even thousands of pounds, so it's nice to see a reprint of this fine translation at a reasonable price. It's only a shame that the photographs from the original production are not reprinted here. The story itself is an essential and influential work in the sci-fi genre, coining the word "robot" as well as introducing the concept of artificial intelligence. Review: FANTASTIC - In my opinion Mr Capek is an extraordinary writter. His book is quite interesting. Yes, yes, fantastic!, I strongly would recommend this Russian author.

Libro scorrevole

Wunschdenken. Der Fachmann sollte das Büchlein registrieren.

A Work that Belongs in Every Library
Capek not only invented the word "robot," this short play had to be the inspiration for Asimov. Thought to be science fiction (with emphasis on "fiction") back in the 30s, with the rise of A.I., it is now the spot-on portent of our future.

I primordi dei robot!
Appena arrivato l'ho cominciato subito a leggere. Buona stampa. Lettura sciolta, piacevole, "intrigante" nonostante i suoi 104 anni!
