Descent of Angels: The Horus Heresy, Book 6

Another stellar title
This book has a particularly interesting backstory. The author slowly works his weave into the greater fold of the heresy tale as more secrets unfold. Highly worth your time.

Glimpse into early Caliban
This was a fun and interesting look into Caliban before and a little after the rise of its primarch. I enjoyed the slice of life of our protagonist as he went through his trials and it was interesting to watch him see the rise of this primarch from the outside. The battles and characters were well written, I only wish I felt the events at the end would have been more epic. Even the protagonist notes....the historians won't even write of this minor skirmish. A bit melancholic at the end, but I do want to read more. To follow this story and characters further.

It would be heresy not to read this book.
I’m running out of superlatives to describe the Horus Heresy series. All respect and love to the Black Library editorial board, whom together have crafted a truly awe inspiring and tragically compelling narrative.Delighted with this purchase and excited to read more.

Refreshing
Very well written and hard to put down. Unlike some other entries in the series, like Fulgrim for me, which felt like a chore I actually wanted to read this and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Great pacing. Interesting characters. It felt alive. Well worth reading.

I'm impressed, no really.
You have a story about knights slaying legendary beasts, betrayal, and standing tall in the face of certain death. With all this good stuff the writer, in a heroic effort of olympic prorportion, manages to churn out one of the most boring reads everIf reading a good book is like having a child borne of love, then reading this book is an abortion against your will.My real score as a giant yawn out of ten.

Not Really Horus Heresy, But Still Great!
Descent of Angels has literally nothing to do with the five preceding novels in the series. Unlike all of them, it does not contribute to the plot of the Horus Heresy and really seems to be in a place of its own.Nevertheless, it is a fantastically-written book. The story of the Dark Angels, or, more importantly, the story of Zahariel and the world of Caliban. It feels much more like a medieval myth than anything else, the setting of Caliban seeming like a post-apocalyptic world mixed with a tale of knights and dragonslaying. This novel marks the first appearance of the Emperor in the series as well, so in that regard it should be viewed as important. If you are looking for a continuation of the story from Fulgrim, it is not here. If you want an excellent story regardless, you can't go wrong with this.

Cold, then hot, then cold.
This was a solid entry, if you can get past the drawling conversational prologue to the story. What follows is an incredibly intimate look into the soul of the First Legion. Unlike other space marine stories, this one offers a rare look into who the Dark Angels are and what set them on their tragic course through the millennia. As much as I love the story, the payoff is frustratingly swift, leaving us nothing but to move on to the next entry in the series.

Great Introduction
Amazing introduction to the first legion! It absolutely starts to shape a little bit more of what will happen 10.000 years into the future

Quiet good
Good read, ending feels plot holed though, has me wanting to know more about why they were sent back to caliban.

Sehr gut geschrieben!

Great insight on the origins of the Dark Angels
Great insight on the origins of the Dark Angels. Has a surprising twist at the end of the book. Mitchell Scanlon delivers such hard hitting action.
