Canson XL Series Recycled Bristol Paper Pad, Dual Sided Smooth and Vellum for Pencil, Marker or Ink, Fold Over, 96 Pound, 9 x 12 In, White, 25 Sheets

This review is about XL Bristol Vellum. I’ve attached a photo of the inside cover of this pad of paper which indicates in its chart that XL Bristol Vellum works well with watercolor. After my test, I believe it - it certainly works well with water color pencil :)Detail: I rigorously tested this paper with a combo of liquid masking fluid applied three ways (ruler pen, marker, and silicon brush), followed by water color pencil (applied two ways - pencil then wet brush, & wet brush then pencil), followed by layers of color pencil (some applied light, some stronger strokes), followed by burnishing parts with colored pencil, blending parts with a stump, and blending parts with mineral oil. Masking fluid came off EASILY after 24 hours on paper! No bleeding above or below masking fluid. I even used an electric eraser to test that (did pretty well, darker colors tended to dye paper/harder to lift, but definite lightening without noticeably damaging paper). The paper held up great! No bleed through of wet or eraser or pencil pressure to the other side. FYI, I used one piece of paper taken out of the pad without stretching it or tacking it down - just loose. There was a slight curling but not too bad. No warping. No bubbling. No pooling. Because of the slight curling, I’d recommend using artist tape to tape it down. Curling righted itself when I put under the pad of paper once it was dry. FYI, There is enough tooth in the paper that it took several layers of colored pencil. -but smooth enough to blend nicely. I used Caran d’Arch water color pencils and Prismacolor Premier pencils. I used a water brush to apply water (so not sopping wet, so can’t attest to full water color wet on wet use). Mineral oil used liberally for blending pencils did not bleed through to other side.I’m very pleased, will enjoy using and will buy again. 5 stars!

This pad is a great size, is very sturdy, and the pages don’t bleed. I got this to use for marker drawings and this was great. This brand overall hasn’t failed me yet.

This is really nice paper. I use this to sketch thumbnails of my projects and plan out colors. I like to use similar paper to what I'm going to use for my actual project, but with this smaller size I don't feel like I'm wasting a whole sheet of my larger size paper.

Love this paper. Surface is perfect for mixed media including an inkjet printer. The weight is just right!

The tooth is perfect for colored pencils! I’m new to the medium in more professional drawings, so this paper has been a great way to start off. It allows you to add multiple layers and doesn’t get too flat too fast (so the colors don’t pick up). This is a picture I drew of my father this past year. High recommend this paper if you’re doing colored pencil. It’s not as thick as cardstock, but is substantial and will hold up. I wouldn’t use this pad as a sketch book though because as soon as you turn the page, it comes off. Works great for me because I don’t want the papers to stay in there, and I don’t have to worry about ripping them, but for folks looking for a notebook to sketch in and keep your papers, this is not for you.

I love the paper, it is very smooth and doesn’t mark too easily from the pencil erasing. It just fell apart though from the spine. The glue is very cheap and the parapet loosely stays in place. I’ll keep using it, just sad it was stable.

My wife says she is trying to get used to it.

No hay mucho que decir, Canson es una marca que no defrauda. En lo personal me encantó más este block vellum (grano fino) que el smooth (liso). Deja un acabado increíble, resiste más capas de color, se borra más fácil y se colorea mejor, incluso con colores de gama escolar, ahí dejo un dibujo de "El Bromas" para muestra. Lo que sí me disgustó en esta ocasión, fue que el cuaderno me llegó maltratado, las fotos publicadas muestran que el block venía totalmente desprendido del encuadernado, lo cual no es tan malo, lo malo es que las esquinas de las hojas llegaron dobladas. Esto se lo atribuyo al almacenaje y la paquetería, no a la marca. Deberían tener más cuidado en eso.

Tardé en subir mi reseña porque quise probar primero este cuaderno, haciendo varios dibujos y la verdad, es que los resultados son muy buenos. El grosor es adecuado y va muy bien con los Prismacolor Premier. Lo malo es que al ser tan liso, es más complicado trabajarlo con colores de gama escolar. Eso se nota en el par de dibujos mostrados. El Peacemaker lo hice con unos Lyra Groove, mientras que a Catwoman con P. Premier y la diferencia es notoria. Resiste muy bien los marcadores de alcohol y he visto que también funciona con acuarelas e incluso acrílico. Canson sigue siendo mi marca de blocks favorita.

Me llego "bien" el producto y cumple con lo que quería, pero lo malo es que ni uno de los 4 block que pedí venia limpio, todos venían sucios sin excepción, como los quería para hacer mis dibujos y vender mis dibujos eso da un poquito de mala presentación, se puede disimular con un marco, pero como sea las manchas están ahí, pero recomiendo el producto, muy recomendable, la hoja es super, super lisita, comparada con las de mi Strathmore Bristol 300 series vellum son muy lisas, perfectas para marcadores (que no uso) y para lapices de colores aceptable (que es lo que uso) quería probar algo liso para ver como resulta con colores ya que la textura suele ayudar con la mezcla de colores no sé que resultara de colores con hoja lisa, pero veremos, después actualizo mi experiencia con el papel. :) (lo que viene sucio es la pasta que no importa realmente, pero si viene con algunas manchas en las esquinas de las hojas y eso bueno, no es lo que esperaba contando que otros me han llegado sin una sola mancha, pero enserio recomiendo el producto. :3)Ah sí, todos los block me llegaron doblados... :v no sé si es por la humedad o qué, los strathmore bristol 300 no me llegaron así, por eso sé que eso no es normal, pero como dije, los recomiendo, les pondré algo de peso para ver si se enderezan. :v
