Actually IS water and air tight.
I have a project where this lid is placed under pressure from water about 4 feet above and then pumo vacuum pulling water from the bucket. NO other lid i have tried has worked. Gama Seal lids from Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, AND Wal-Mart have all failed due to mold imperfections that cause problems with the seal on the lid. This one was perfect and had no trouble sealing.

This product almost resembles the real thing
I ordered these lids because I assumed they would be just like the lids I bought in Menards in Gillette, Wyoming in 2015. Those lids locked onto the bucket, making the container airtight moisture tight and handy to use. The lids I received, not so much!!! These lids will not lock onto the bucket without help. I think if you bought some SUPER WEATHERSTRIP CEMENT and sealed the lids with this it would work. That is my plan for these. I ordered two lids from Uline that are made by Gamma Seal Lid for less money than I paid for these POSERS. Live and learn

Doesn't Fit Many 5 Gal Buckets
I'm a packrat & save any 5 gal. containers I can clean well enough to reuse. I have 2 brands of joint compound buckets that are immaculate & these lids don't fit either. The only buckets I could use these with are "Black Jack" elastomeric roof coating buckets. But even getting them fitted properly required a lot of banging with a rubber mallet & a block of wood. I'm glad I only bought 3. My next purchase will be from another seller that isn't selling Asian knockoffs. Maybe a real food grade bucket might work but don't count on these working well on just any bucket.

Awkward Threaded Cover
The Good: the ring adequately grips the lip of a standard paint bucket (5/6/7 gallon). The Bad: The cover uses a single helical thread, which makes it difficult to get started, prone to cross-threading, and requires a lot of turning once correctly engaged. The Ugly: It doesn’t work with inexpensive Home Depot orange buckets, which have non-standard lips, making it entirely HD’s fault. The Bad could be solved by redesigning the product to use multiple (2/3/4) concentric treads. With four threads one need turn the cover only an average of 3/8 turn (135°): 1/8 turn backward to engage the threads, and 1/4 turn forward to tighten the cover.

The O-rings leak. Some are defective
The casting had a lot of left over stringy plastic crud that prevented the inner top's O-ring sealing. Fixing that, the inner top holds a seal on another outer ruing I have, however I couldn't remove the new outer ring that still leaks. Fortunately there's a Vid that shows how to remove with a spoon - works perfect.Removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Leaks less, but still no good for brewing. I assume some are defective, some may not be. I have other authentic Cary Gamma Lids with a air-lock bubbler installed that work great. Lesson learned. Buy authentic.

Leaks
I was using there to make easy access to animal feed. After several tries to get it attached to a new 5 gallon bucket I thought I was successful. After one rain, I ha to grow out all the feed in the bucket and water was slowly leaking in. I tried again, on a different new bucket thinking I did something wrong. Same result, ruined animal feed. Only works well for things you don’t mind getting wet.

Useful lids
I bought these to use with food grade buckets to store flour and other baking ingredients. They make it a breeze to open and close the buckets. Tight seal and I like all the color options.

lids for 5 gal buckets
Received the tops for my 5 gal food grade buckets. This makes about 6 that I have purchased. Excellent product. Will buy again.
