It's supposed to allow you to use one of the "new" generation Chatterbox earpiece/microphone units with an "old" Chatterbox intercom. But there's some sort of impedance mismatch between the two. If you get the intercom volume up loud enough to hear on the "new" headset, I'm blowing the eardrums out of the person using the old headset.
