Nostalgic and fun!
The times of exploring the no doubt haunted house on my block of the street was one of my favorite things when I was younger. Being brought back into that time was magical and made me yearn for the whispered tales we would tell about that one house that wasn't quite right. Even though I'm not the intended age range, I found this a lovely read. My niece (8) who read this alongside me had nothing but great things to say as well. Her favorite character of course, was Vanessa (and Fluffy). I plan on reading it again by myself because its perfect for the Halloween spirit

A Wonderful Read!
Bought this for my children and they absolutely loved it. They wouldn't stop raving about it so naturally, my husband and I decided to read it as well and we ended up enjoying it! It's a very fun book, that brings about a sense of nostalgia and on top of that, it actually had quite a lot of spine-chilling moments, if that's what you're looking for.Overall, it's a great book and I highly recommend it!

A nostalgia trip back to the 90’s
As a 90’s kid, this book brought me back to my youth. There was this one spooky house on the street behind the street I lived on, and all the kids thought it was haunted. This book reminds me of the fear that we experienced walking passed it and daring one another to go inside (which we never did). And the nostalgia that the boom encodes also reminds me of those cool autumn nights when the children on my block would go trick-or-treating, and tell scary stories to each other while eating gobs of candy by the handful. This book was one of the high points of taking me away from this pandemic and to a time passed when things were simpler.

Great spooky story, with throwback feel!
Fantastic read, definitely a page turner.Really takes you back to being a kid when most of us were terrified of things that go bump in the night.

Beautifully Nostalgic
Loved the setting and the overall story. It reminded me of those old Halloween specials you'd see on TV back in the day. Very fun read, I can't recommend this more for you and your family.

Fun for all ages!
I feel I should preface my review by stating that I grew up in the 80’s so I may a little older and not be the “target audience” for this book. Having watched horror my whole life and gone threw my jaded teenage years where I stopped caring about frights or well crafted story in favor of gore, I grew into adulthood ready to return to what excited me most about horror in my youth. So over the subsequent years I’ve revisited childhood favorites like Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, even stuff like Gremlins which is far darker than it should be for a “kids movie”.It is with a joyous delight that I get to talk about Elyse William’s book and I submit it a worthy contender to the stuff that made me have to sleep with the lights on growing up.Let’s start with the setting. A Haunted House. Classic stuff here. On reflection the small town I grew up in felt more like the 50’s than the 80’s. The kids ruled the streets. Baseball was placed where a space could be found and the ball always found its way to the creepy neighbors house. We roamed the streets feeling like we owned them. I knew every house on my block, every backyard shortcut. If you grew up in a small town or suburbia you know the one house that everyone said was haunted. It existed in a state of disrepair, weeds overgrown, shutters hanging askew. T.V. and movies might inform your fear of it, but all it took was walking by it alone at night to get the imagination flowing and the feet moving a bit faster.Williams nails the fuzzy nostalgia feeling of this era so well for me. Her characters are fully realized and fleshed out, within moments of meeting them you feel like you’ve known them all for years. The frights are solid as well, again harking back to a simpler time where just the thought of a wish on a cursed monkeys paw summoning a simple zombie was enough to plague you with nightmares for weeks. I read this with the lights out by the fire place with my dog keeping me safe, as it showed up just before an ice storm and we lost power for a few days. Perfect setting imo.So I declare this book not only a success as a fun frightful read for kids full of that imaginative spark and a quest for something just a little unsafe, but for people of all ages.Something to read when the parents are asleep and you’re under your blankets with a flashlight because you just need to turn one more page.Something to read if you’re older and jaded like me and are looking for ways to reconnect with the way the world used to look to you. This book is fun for all ages, a must read and I really hope to see more from Elyse down the road!

Retro spooks
Really took me back to my 9-12 year old self reading the great teen horror novels of the late 90's.An enjoyable and well described story, you can really picture each character and environment in great detail.Recommended to those like me who remember reading these kinds of books in their youth, and would be a great read for today's 9-12 year olds, let them put themselves in a setting where if it was dark and scary you didn't have a smartphone with a super bright torch built in and your parents number on speed dial.

A 90s horror homage by Elyse Willems
It took me a while to write this review, better late than never I guess.I couldn’t tell you how proud I’m for having a book written by one of the most talented women in our current time, the lovely Elyse Willems.I know this book meant for age 8 to 13. but you know what, it isn't half bad for a guy in his 20s.This is less of a review and more of a thank you letter to Elyse. Therefore, on behalf of all your fans that followed you throw your career, thank you for the wonderful time you have giving us, and I can’t wait what is coming next.
