Motta8100/R Professional Flat Base Coffee Tamper, 58mm, Red Handle

Weight and feel are good. It's heavy enough. I like the nice wood. Engraved text is very sharp looking and the machining seems to be of high quality. My only gripe is that I feel like the bottom could be improved with a super smooth polishing job, but a few years of use will eventually take care of that too.

It fits the Gaggia Classic well enough but not perfectly. It’s not airtight at the top of the portafilter, but it creates a good surface deeper down. I use it daily and have seen no reason to replace it, but I can’t recommend it to the perfectionist hoping to get a truly pro tool at a bargain price. What you’re getting with this is a good home barista tool at an affordable price, nothing more, nothing less. I’ve dropped it and it did dent slightly, but again it’s not a 100% perfect fit anyway, so the small imperfection is inconsequential. Would I buy it again? Depends. If I’m feeling plucky and flush, maybe it’s a big birthday, I might splurge for something nicer, but if it somehow got destroyed tomorrow, I’d be happy to just repurchase this one. Hope that helps you decide.

By far the best accessory I have purchased for my espresso machine! I recently purchased the Rancilio Silvia and although I've been making espresso for years, I was still a novice when it came to all the ins and outs of espresso making. When I got the Silvia however, I needed to figure it out quick. I was getting weak coffee with no Crema! So disappointing! I read online that a stainless steel tamper was a must - so I started searching. This Motta is the best! It has a sleek design, it looks sharp! I prefer Italian made products because of their durability and fine design. This fit the bill! No more watery coffee! If seems like a steep price but it is well worth the investment. It is beautifully crafted and it works. My coffee packs with barely a press. I highly recommend this tamper.

What more can I ask for, it's a tamper. Why anyone would spend double on a Reg Barber tamper is questionable. The stainless steel base is machined very PRECISELY and the wood handle is gorgeous! I ordered the 58mm version for my Gaggia New Baby espresso machine and it is perfect. I also love the subtle "Motta" laser engraving on the steel base - a nice touch because it is there but not in-your-face obtrusive. It is also made in Italy (one of the reason why I was willing to spend a little more for a Motta (mainly for bragging rights)) and it came in a really nice box.

Beautiful Italian-made professional tamper. Great weight and perfect for all 58mm portafilter baskets. Love the Ferrari red wood handle! Gorgeous!

This is a must own for espresso machine owners. Don’t think twice. Nice heft and easy to clean.

The steel part is beautifully made, but the handle is too tall and the black varnish started to chip away after a couple of weeks.

Rock solid - this thing should still work for my grandchildren. Will never need another one (unless I lose it).

OK, it's an incredible deal at that price. super heavy and feels very good in hand. the stainless steel is really high grade and the etching does give it that "pro" finish.MY ONLY RECOMMENDATION:I should have taken the 58.4 and not the 58mm... 58.4 leaves no margin for error and can get stuck if you are pulling tons of shots and moving fast...BUT if you are in it for the passion or the ultimate tamp... then, order a 58.4... that little margin will compress your puck to perfection.

Very nice tamper, has a good feel and weight in the hand. Mine came with some slight indentations on the base so it wasn't perfectly flat which is why I have given it 4 stars

An excellent product. Used with a Sage ‘The Oracle’ machine (as a backup to the temperamental self tamping mechanism), this a great fit for the 58mm portafilter. The build is good and study, and the quality of the finish on the solid metal base is excellent.

Even though I use filter coffee I thought this tamp might produce good results. It does! The coffee tastes much stronger and therefore I can use less of it. Brilliant!
