First, I have slept on 600, 800, 1000 TC sheets before, and these don't feel up there like that. BUT the damask is quite nice, and they are nice and heavy - perhaps they will get much softer later.That being said, for a while now, my wife and I have gotten used to bed-in-a-bag sets from big box stores (bottom/top sheet, pillow cases, shams, comforter) and upon buying a proper bed frame and new mattress, I said I wanted some nicer sheets. Those may have been 250TC and some may have been 400 or higher (possibly some back to school specials in there... Queen size, by the way) and THIS SET IS SUPERB compared to the cheap packs we are used to. I am quite pleased.As some said, they do wrinkle - they come wrinkled, of course, because they are stuffed in a plastic bag for packing. Wash them. Maybe wash them twice. And dry them. And they're still wrinkled. Ever heard of anyone ironing sheets? Not in this century? Well, if you're picky you can, or you can just spread them out taught on the bed (our memory foam mattress is firm so it holds the sheets quite well) and they even out all on their own.BOTTOM LINE:Do they look like hotel sheets? Depends on the hotel. Do they FEEL like hotel sheets? Well, depends on the hotel... but they sure don't feel like Motel sheets!!!I would not be afraid or embarrassed to buy these as a gift for someone.

Pros - Thick and breathable (When you first get the sheet set they may seem a little heavy but that seems to be typical with higher thread counts. Although, they seem to thick they keep you cool at night with out being cold. We tend to prefer to sleep with it cold in our house and the sheets keep us warm but are very breathable during the summer time. This prevents against any sweating at night.) - Soft and comfortable. (I always say they are silky smooth but to be technical they are not made of silk.) - Looks even better in person. (I love the stripes that add a little bit more than just a plain colored sheet set.) - Durable (When you wash them you don't have to worry about the material becoming worn and fuzz balls developing. Also another reviewer states that their sheets have shrank. I have not had this problem. We bought these in Jan. 2013. We have washed them numerous times and at no point have they not fit. We have huge pillow top mattress and them fitting was a huge concern buying them as we need them to be able to fit the width of the bed. Perfect fit every time. Not too loose to where the material bunches up or too tight to where we have difficulty making the bed.)Cons - NONE

We purchased these sheets at the same time we purchased some Sferra 1891 sheets (from another source) so we were able to compare the two. The Renaissance sheets are definitely rougher and thicker.However, after washing, they seem to become softer. We're hoping with use and washings, they will become even more soft. We were warned from other reviews that the sheets will shrink so we purchased a larger size than we needed. On our queen-sized waterbed, the king sized sheets are not that much too big, after two washings. They may fit snugly after several more washings. We're just hoping that they don't become too small.They are nice sheets for the price and I would purchase them again. We paid over twice more for the Sferra sheets than for these and the Sferra were less than half price from a closeout store. If you're a connoisseur, you probably won't be happy with the Renaissance. If you're a bargain hunter and appreciate crisp, substantial sheets at a good price, you'll be pleased.

I bought one set about a month ago.The sheets were smooth and pressed so I went ahead and put them on the bed straight out of the pack to make sure they fit our custom made queen size deep pocketed mattress,and had no visible flaws. They looked so good I left them on the bed.I usually buy sateen which have a silker feel with a 600 thread count.I admit my husband did notice the difference.But said they felt a lot like the sheets we are used to when we travel, staying at really nice hotels and when we cruise to the southern carribean.I have now washed this set three or four times since recieving them and they will wrinkle if left too long in the dryer,but with the nice summer weather I have beenline drying them (because I love the smell)they have a smooth 100% cotton feel.I think they are a great,and for the money you cannot beat them. So I just ordered my second set.Mrs.W.H.Duke

I've never bought higher thread count, 100% cotton sheets before, so this was a new experience for me. I purchased these sheets thinking they would be like other sheets we have had for a long time. We washed them before using them and learned that we have to take them out of the dryer immediately or they wrinkle. I don't really care about a few wrinkles and hardly iron anything, but these really wrinkle to the point where it's uncomfortable to sleep on them. And, they are not soft when you first wash them. I think they will soften as we use them. For now they are stiff and just a little scratchy, but they are very good quality. They are beautiful, very thick, well made, and will last a very long time. I'm hoping they will soften with use. I would purchase these again now that I have the expectation that they won't be super soft right out of the package. They make our bed look like it belongs in a palace! The color on the ivory set is true, but he color on the honey set looks a little more like a light yellow green. Actually, that was even better for us since we really wanted that color to begin with, but just couldn't find it.
