Good value, machining could be improved.
You get good value for the money, however the machining leaves a bit to be desired. There's a lot of "slop" between the slider and the rod, much more than you'd expect from a precision tool, however it's an aesthetic consideration and doesn't seem to affect performance. The slider is solid brass, so the tool is heavier than I expected, otherwise it works as expected.8 Months of use UPDATE: I'd like to mention one positive aspect that I couldn't find in the seller's advertisement: The marker comes with two marking wheels which are not the same. The one on the marker when it arrives is a rolling cutter with a tiny ball bearing in it, something (the ball bearing) I would not have imagined. The other is a fixed, non-rolling cutter which is sharpenable, and cuts the wood fibers rather than just leaving a dent in them. I didn't notice this when the marker first arrived, but rather imagined both were the same. The fixed, non-rolling cutter leaves a much better line for hand work because you can locate a chisel or marking knife precisely in the line of cut fibers. Experts say "the wheel is not supposed to turn", and I agree with this. It also needs to be very sharp. The non-rolling cutter is dull when it arrives, but can easily be sharpened on a sharpening stone or diamond plate. I recommend the diamond plate because this cutter is hardened, I believe, based on how long it took to sharpen it. The recess where the attachment screw sits on the fixed cutter is very deep, allowing for multiple resharpenings without hitting the screw. The screw on the rolling cutter is essentially flush, but you could sharpen the wheel a bit, if you wish. You will get better performance and a more readable line from the fixed cutter than from the rolling one, for jobs like hand cut dovetailing, but the rolling cutter might be better if you intend to reinforce the line afterwards with a pencil or ballpoint pen in the line. The good part is that you get both options, if you recognize that option is there. An additional benefit previously unnoticed by me is that the cutter is not much larger than the diameter of the rod, which makes for a more accurate cut line than from a wheel which is larger compared to the diameter of the rod.The face of the brass fence/slider (piece with the knurled knob) should be flat. Mine was slightly domed upon arrival, which I remedied by flattening it on the same diamond lapping plate used to sharpen the fixed cutter. With both of those tune-ups done, the marker produces excellent results. I would have given it five stars if there were less slop between the slider and the rod. I haven't checked the accuracy of the graduations on the rod because I never use them. The option of two cutters makes this product a good deal.

Great scriber
This wheel cutter is well made and smooth. Very good quality, scribes lines into wood and has a very good bearing and marks harder surfaces better than I thought. Nice dove tail marker for small projects.Thank you again Amazon.
