Fast pace and thrilling
Not bad at all. The characters are well written and can easily be visualized. Story is interesting and kind of fun to read for a quick thrill.

Where was the editor?
I hate to give my favorite author a one-star review, but all I can think is that Richie lacked time or interest while working on this novel.First, Kathleen. Usually Richie can take a protagonist and make you feel exactly what she feels--how she's in danger and wondering who she can trust but also afraid she's blowing things out of proportion. It's tough to say whether Kathleen was poorly developed or just extremely self absorbed, but the latter is how she came across. Her reactions to certain things in the book were really callous. But the whole story felt like it was rushed through, especially the ending. The killer's motives made no sense, and the things the killer did were too far-fetched. As far as Richie's writing--which I usually admire (seriously--she's the best)--she switched perspectives at least twice and I caught at least one major grammar mistake. This is what clued me in that maybe the editor rushed her through this one. If this is the first Richie book you've read, pick up Someone at the Door, Teacher's Pet, or The Drifter and give her another chance. Someone at the Door, in my opinion, is her best.

Satisfying Thriller
Ahhh, what a satisfying YA mystery thriller! I had so much fun reading this one that I despised having to put it down at all.Something's amiss when Kathleen takes over Ms. Finchs's librarian spot while she goes off to a seminar. The library cannot stay quiet, and it's not due to a noisy bunch of patrons. Someone is stalking the library, stalking Kathleen. . .but whoever it is doesn't stay within the building's confines. It starts with the weird clues left everywhere Kathleen goes--books. very specific books left at each crime scene.Cusick does a clever job of using the library and books in creative ways to draw us into this tangled web of suspense. I thought I knew who the villain was, I was so sure, but I was so wrong. Never have I read such a GREAT TWIST!If you like deepening mysteries with tightening suspense around every corner and down every aisle, pick this one up!

Scured
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this book. It was wonderful! That was NOT the ending I expected. It feels as if it's been years since I read horror this good!I love the irony in reading it, because I'm a librarian myself. The state of Wyoming has a Freemont County but that's not where I am. It was just all very ironic in a hipster sort of way! I'll be passing this one on to my coworker. 😍

As good as Cusick's other books
Here is the description on the back of the book:"It was after hours. Kathleen was preparing to close the library when somebody returned five grisly books about death. One was slashed. All were overdue. Then Kathleen found the bookmark with the deadly warning. Now people close to her are falling victim to tragic accidents. Someone is out for blood. Is it Robin, silent, shy, withdrawn? Is it Alexander, the dark, handsome stranger who haunts the library stacks and says he wants to help? Kathleen can count on only one thing: the killer WILL strike again--her death is overdue...."Kathleen is working at the creepy old library in town during spring break while the librarian, Miss Finch, attends a seminar. Working with Kathleen is her good friend Robin, a shy, mute young man who always listens to what Kathleen has to say. Then one night someone drops off several long overdue books on murders and torture, with pictures cut out of them, and Kathleen begins to feel uneasy when she finds a bookmark in one of them that reads, "Horrors Await You. Beware." Soon Kathleen's friends begin to get fatally injured, and at every accident site, she finds a book that has to do with the way her friends are being hurt. Who is doing this? Is it Alexander, a college guy who has started hanging around the library? Is it Bran, Kathleen's hot lifelong best friend? Or is it Robin, silent and withdrawn? The ending was really great, and I never guessed who the killer was. I'm so glad I read this; I almost didn't, because I thought the title was pretty stupid, but I was wrong! Definitely worth anyone's money!
