Giant Christmas Inflatable Lawn Decoration
This bubble is some spaceman tech from the future. Who'd have ever thought of putting your car into a giant Christmas inflatable? This is the 14' Tall Car Capsule. On their actual website it was the recommend one for a 2003 Mini Cooper S. I want to get the Showcase eventually so I can use this for another car someday. This bubble is not the most practical if you take the car a lot. But if you only take the car once a week or so it will be fine. The quality is top notch. The clear plastic is surprisingly thick. The base mat reminds me of the stuff a dinghy would be made out of. The seams are welded plastic and look very thick. The zipper is very heavy duty, it has pulls on both the outside and the inside, more on that later... It has two zippers like a suitcase, so you can choose where the 'opening' is.Set up was fairly easy. The hardest part was getting the mat to lay flat. I should have laid it out in the sun for a bit, but that wasn't practical at the time. Or perhaps some sheets of plywood narrow enough the tires wouldn't touch it. The clear plastic had to be unfolded and unstuck from itself. It was dragging all over the car. If you are particular, and come on, you are, you should put an indoor slip cover on the car prior to inflating. It inflated in seemingly no time at all, probably 10 minutes until it was fully pressurized. I even had to unzip it a bit and crawl inside to get something out of the car. It was quite interesting to be inside the bubble with the car, then inside the car inside the bubble. I recommend it. Plus you can take off the slip cover so you can see your car from the outside. The fan seems to be high quality, but I still fear for its longevity given that it is supposed to run 24/7. The filter looks like it would catch all the dust and could be washed easily enough, might get a spare when i have to swap them. This is set up in a quonset in rural Nebraska. Dust is everywhere and birds can get it occasionally. We'll see how it holds up and if the car is kept fresh. I rolled a window partially down like the directions state, to keep the inside fresh.Another concern is cleaning the base mat and exterior surface. The instructions claim you can use a car duster on the bubble, or mild soap. Probably the same for the base mat. Being in a rural setting, dust is incessant. So i'll be battling dirty tire tracks on the inside. Will have to blow compressed air on the car to get the dust of the rear prior to putting it under. They also recommend to let the car cool down and don't put a space heater inside, makes sense. This car previously spent 4 years in this quonset under an outdoor Mini branded car cover. I had Damp-Rid in the interior and mothballs under the car by the tires. Mice still got into the A/C filter housing. I only took the car out every other month or so excluding in Winter. Damp-rid kept the interior fresh, but the fresh air intake duct and filter housing had to be cleaned out. I am confident that this capsule will keep the mice out this time. I just wish I had this thing 5 years ago.
