Battles Map by Map (DK History Map by Map) Review: Great Book for Anyone Into Military History - Great book that is ideal for reference and any coffee table. Maps are easy to follow, and the book gives you a good linear explanation of all that happened in history's most important battles. Review: Some of History's Greatest Battles, Map by Map. - From Rameses II vs the Hittites to the Invasion of Iraq in 2003, this book covers some of history's major battles. The Battle of Thermopylae, the Crusades, Waterloo, the American Revolution, Napoleonic Wars, World War I, a few battles from WW2 (there's a whole separate book in this series just for WW2), plus Korea, Vietnam, and the conflicts up until 2003 where the book ends, and that's just a few off the top of my head. Every map gives an excellent overview of each conflict and featured battle and a brief timeline of events. It's a large book in terms of height and width but not very thick (under 300 pages). But for the maps, this is understandable.

Essential resource for war history buffs.
This informative and beautifully designed, volume provides step-by-step timelines of major battles from Kadesh (1285 BCE) to The Iraq War (2003). The maps' graphics are skillfully constructed to show each battle's time line, types of units (infantry, cavalry, bowmen, artillery, etc.), unit/troop movements, landscapes, etc.. Each section also provides the larger contexts for the battles, the types of weapons used, command structures, etc.. Although this volume can't cover every major battle, it does a great job of covering representative battles from different eras. Whether you are looking for info on a specific battle, or want to read it in whole to gain a perspective on the evolution of warfare, this book is a gem.

Great Product, Subpar Packaging
The book oneself looks so interesting. Got this to give as a gift. My concern is with the packaging done by Amazon. It arrived in a small box with no protection on the corners, so all the corners are either slightly torn or damaged in some way. Disappointed with Amazon, not the product.

Good Book
This is a really cool book. I was slightly worried because some of the reviews said the book would come damaged, but mine was in perfect condition! If you like battles, analyzing tactics, and history in general, I highly recommend this book! The graphics and the explanations are both very well put together.
