Whimsies are puzzle pieces cut into specific recognizable shapes, like flowers or animals. They got their name because they were originally cut according to the whims of the puzzle craftsman. In 1940 Simon Combes was born in "Wilderness Cottage", in Shaftesbury, England, and from that day in June, the Wilderness always attracted him. His first adventures began early when in 1946 when his parents moved onto farming Kenya's Great Rift Valley, a magical place for a young boy. Best known for his stunning images of wildlife in the African bush, he achieved worldwide success and acclaim through many prestigious awards. His paintings hang in private and museum collections around the globe.

Non-interlocking pieces
The pieces of this puzzle are incredibly annoying. They don't interlock, so even when you find where a piece goes it will simply sit there until you have filled in all of the piece around it. It has the promised number of "special" pieces, but it is also full of just random shapes that are horrible puzzle pieces. Probably about half of the pieces of this puzzle are non-interlocking. I finished it, and it is getting donated. A pretty picture, but not worth it.

Good quality puzzle - pieces interlock well, the fun shaped ones added a nice touch of whimsy to the puzzle-making experience, and the irregular sized pieces across the board kept it challenging, but not frustratingly so.
