Best Jeep Mount I have found.
I've gone through 4 different mounting systems for cell phones on my '97 Wrangler. I found that there are two differences in Wranglers, the straight angle of the windshield, and the rougher ride that make using normal cell phone mounts painful. I used a CD slot mounted holder for a while, but it would get jarred out of the slot. The console of the TJ doesn't offer a lot of alternatives. This mount installed easily, though I had to take off the mirror to get the required force to drive in the self tapping screws. It holds my Nexus 5x quite adequately either horizontally or vertically. The screen is easily readable, and within comfortable arm's length. The spring that holds the cell phone takes a little getting used to, but I will gladly tiake that for the stability with which it holds my Nexus 5x.The tray is functional; I never used the original tray, but have found this tray useful for loose change, a lighter, receipts, etc.For my money, it is the best cell phone mount for use in a Jeep TJ Wrangler.

Excellent product
SO I was very reluctant to put holes in my Jeep...then I looked around my Jeep and determined it wasn't exactly in the most pristine condition and it was more important that it be usable for me than not have 3 hidden holes in the dash. Two way tape won't hold anything in place so I didn't even use the ones it came with. It doesn't fit PERFECTLY on the dash but when you screw it in, the small gaps on the sides are not noticeable. I needed something effective to hold my phone and this works perfectly.

The tray is good, phone holder ok.
So I installed the holder with phone holder in a 04 Jeep TJ. The install was super easy and the tray itself is nice. The phone holder however is another story. I went to install it on the ball and found the locking ring was SUPER TIGHT. I mean ridiculously tight. I had to really push it to get it to start on the threads and with a couple turns once it was started it split. It was only a couple turns when it snapped and you can see the gap in the attached pictures. I've used many holders similar to this and do not believe it was an error on my part. There is just no way that was the proper size ring.As for the phone holder it would probably be fine for a thin phone but my Samsung S8+ has a battery case on it so it's thicker than most. Because of this it doesn't hold well at all in the holder.I do like the ability to add accessories to the holder and have put a clip on the phone holder screw. I can now easily clip my action cam in place when wanted and then unclip it when I'm not using it to clean up my dash.Update-3/5/20 I reached out to their warranty department and filled out the form. The next day I got an email asking for my receipt. I sent screenshots and the next day they had a new phone holder on the way. I got it today and the ring on this one is correct. It screwed on easily like it should. I plan on using this to hold my Samsung S5 that I'm using as a remote for my action cam. It will do this well and puts it in a good location.I raised a star because of their customer service. I'm very happy with it and now have a second phone holder as they sent the entire holder instead of just the ring.

Great idea but is, in my opinion, poorly executed
I bought this for my TJ to both hold my phone/GoPro better and to provide a little better storage on the dash. Install was pretty straightforward and not at all difficult. It took maybe 20 minutes and that was mainly because I pulled the whole center dash piece to run some wires for a switch while I was at it. Like many others have stated, the gaps are definitely noticeable but certainly not a deal breaker for me. The ball is loose, no matter how tight you screw the mount. I even tried a different mount from another ball-type system and it was still very loose, seems that the ball is a little small. This thing stacks up for me as follows:Pros: • The extra storage on the dash is nice. • It's nice to be able to mount both the phone and my GoPro. • Looks pretty good, even taking the gap into consideration.Cons: • The gaps between dash and unit will definitely bother some people. • While it hasn't happened to me yet, the arms on the clamp definitely seem like they'll be the first to go. • No matter how tight you screw the mount, it's still quite loose and moves all over the place while on rough trails.I think the system is based on a great idea but is poorly executed. I'll likely make some modifications that will make it work quite well for me but out of the box it is, as another reviewer stated, an expensive coin holder.

Easy to install very helpful
At first I was hesitant to buy this product because I thought it would be in the way of seeing the road while driving because I use it to hold my phone, but it turns out to be a great place. The phone holder is very sturdy and has not dropped my phone, even on very bumpy roads. The space behind the ball mount is very good to store cards and is bigger than it looks. The installation was very easy and only took a few minutes. I think every jeep should have a dash mount like this because it is way more useful than the original dash. I have no complaints about this product

Love it.
Finally! Something sturdy enough to hold my phone and hold my stuff. A bit steep price-wise, but it works well enough to justify it.

Vibrates so bad, my phone fell out... on the HIGHWAY.
I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler with mud tires and needed a phone mount that would keep my iPhone 7 plus from vibrating. I loved the idea of this mount being designed specifically for Jeeps and down in the tray and had high hopes, but was very disappointed. The quality was really poor. Cheap plastic and the phone to vibrate so badly, my phone actually fell out of the cradle several times while going down the highway. After testing several other mounts, I eventually found the Ram Mount X Grip which is solidly constructed out of metal and has little to no vibration. I think the Rugged Ridge product is a good idea with the in tray base, but they need to up the quality. Metal construction, anti-vibration padding beneath it, and an adjustable grip on the device would make it a killer product.

Good Addition to an older Jeep.
Really good option for a phone holder on the Jeep. Takes minutes to install. Really easy. A few pieces of 3M tape, and three self tapping screws. Very Solid unit.
