Magical Girl Raising Project - The Complete Series - Essentials

Not for young children to watch with ya. It starts out wholesome. Everyone wanting to be the best magical girl they can be. After an app selects them to be magical girls. By episode 3 or 4 the blood bath begins. Either kill or be killed cause there can't be so many of them.

I knew that a lot of magical girls would die just based off of the synopsis, as well as the blood splatter all over the discs themselves, but it still hurt to watch so many die. But all in all this was a lot of fun. I got really into the characters and there were so many girls I loved to hate, and that I loved to love. My heart was broken quite a few times rooting for specific characters. This is basically an adaptation of the first volume and some extras of the Magical Girl Raising Project light novel. I’d highly suggest checking out the light novel if you enjoyed this, as it only gets better in future volumes. Volume 10 is actually a prequel and backstory to the characters from volume 1, as well as the anime.I see people trashing this as a ripoff of Madoka Magica, but I didn’t feel that was the case at all. They’re both darker magical girl franchises, but that’s where the similarities end. Honestly I enjoyed this just as much as Madoka Magica, and in a some respects I liked it more because of the fact that there are 11 light novel volumes released in english, which is a lot more of the world to explore as a fan when comparing the two. Loved both though, I really think if you like one of them, you’d like the other.

This is a Crunchyroll anime and is one of those shows that will really hook you after about the first two episodes. The characters: All of them are great. The show jumps around quite a bit between each of the characters' stories, which is a good thing, since you get to see all of their strategies in what turns out to be a war game between all of them. Sadly, there are not many episodes, so the plot is kind of rushed. The dark and unsettling tone this series takes on feels somewhat similar in style to anime like Made In Abyss - I would highly recommend this blu-ray to anyone who really enjoyed that series.

I know people are not that surprised or interested in the whole “dark magical girl” sort of thing by now,but, I’ll say that this is more like a battle royale or the Hunger Games rather than being similar to Madoka as many always compare any series depicting magical girls in a darker light. For Mahoiku you could change the magical girls for anything else and the story would probably not change. While I’m a little bias since I read the LN’s I still think it’s pretty good. It came really fast and looks great. Also Nemurin is best girl ~ (though my Waifu is Top Speed)

I went into this knowing what the plot was about... but dang. It did it’s job & made me buy the light novels as well (which are even more intense.)
