Good enough for kitchen but not for shaving. Great non-slip bamboo base. Average corundum stone.
I was skeptical of buying this product since their was only 2 "verified purchaser" reviews and did not find any reviews of the Corsoe stone on the web at the time of purchase, mostly likely because the product had just launched a few weeks before my purchase. I almost opted to go with the kings whetstone of the same grit but decided to get the Corsoe stone due to the material thickness and the durability of corundum. The 6000 grit corundum side will not give you the same mirror polish you find in a 6000 grit Japanese stone but it does give a shiny reflective finish. I used this stone on a $10 straight razor that was not of a shave quality sharpness and had some deformed edges. The 1000 grit side made fairly quick work of bringing the blade edge back to an even straight line. Used the 6000 grit to smooth out the edges to a reflective shine. Ran it through the leather strop. The stone made the cheap straight razor good enough to shave hair off my face and body but it can be sharper if you finish it with a real 8000 grit sedimentary water stone to get the blade to mirror polish quality. The stone is average but does what it's suppose to do. The bamboo base is amazing. The non slip bamboo base did not slip on me at all. I would recommend this stone as an everyday kitchen sharpener due to grit rating and corundum durability. For shaving purposes, this won't make the cut. I would go with 8000 grit Japanese waterstone or 12,000 grit corundum for shaving.

nice base, stays very stable while sharpening
Works well. I wish it came with a flattening stone. nice base, stays very stable while sharpening. Could use a guide to hold at proper angle.

So, I am an extreme novice at knife sharpening, but this product met my expectations. After a few tries I managed to get my chef's knife pretty sharp. I'm still a little shy of "razor sharp," but I am certain that is my fault and not the product's fault. Everything is well made and does what it's supposed to. I'll keep working at this particular skill, and I'm glad to have a good product to do it on.

Corsoe Keeps My Tools Sharp !
This is a great stone. I use it for my bench chisels, timber framing chisels, plane irons and Spokeshave irons . It's a good combination grit. The 1000grit doesn't cleanup my chisels as quickly as I would like but it does the job . The 6000grit leaves a nice sharp polish on my tools. It doesn't give it the greatest mirror finish but if that's what you want I would also get a 3000/8000 stone and work back and forth between the 2 stones. You have to soak it in water for 5 minutes before each use which is no big deal at all. It comes with a bamboo base which is very nice and rubber stone covers so the stone doesn't slip and to keep them from getting damaged. The bamboo bottom has a no slip pad on the bottom that works well. I put a slightly damp towel under it to keep it from moving and to collect the sludge mess . And a water bottle with some tiny holes poked in the top to keep water on it. Definetly recommend this stone. Very good buy

Saved me from a new knife
I was about to buy a new chef's knife as my old Wusthof knife was not working for me anymore. I had purchased other sharpeners in the past but they just didn't work. After purchasing the 2 sided sharpening stone and using it on my old knife it was like having a brand new, even better than the original knife back. I cannot explain how sharp this made the blade, I can literally cut paper into shreds. Saved a lot of money over purchasing a new chefs knife.
