Flame Sugar Maple (Acer Saccharum), is traditional Sugar Maple (sugar maple, rock maple, hard rock maple) with a soft and flowing figure. It is a Temperate Hardwood grown in the US and Canada. It has an even to fine texture, straight to wavy grain, and the color is pale, darkening toward the heart and with distinct red-brown latewood lines. It is the hard maple is the state tree of Wisconsin, Vermont, New York and West Virginia. Flame maple is also known as curly maple, flamed maple, tiger maple, ripple maple, fiddleback or tiger stripe, is a feature of maple in which the growth of the wood fibers is distorted in an undulating pattern, producing wavy lines known as "flames". This effect is often mistakenly said to be part of the grain of the wood; it is more accurately called "figure", as the distortion is perpendicular to the grain direction. Prized for its beautiful appearance, it is used frequently in the manufacturing of musical instruments, such as violins and bassoons, and fine furniture.
