Protect-A-Pak is a single use shock indicator that can be attached to an item being shipped or placed inside a package via a self-adhesive backing. It is composed of a cylindrical plastic casing containing two springs, each of which is fitted between two steel balls. These springs are designed to withstand a specific rated g force impact. If the acceleration of an impact exceeds the g force rating, the two balls detach from the affected axis and fall into the plastic casing. As the springs are fitted at a 90 degree angle, each Protect-A-Pak can monitor two axes. A companion label on the outside of a package provides a visual indication to the carrier that the shipment is being monitored.
