This is 40k
A legendary and infamous book in the world of 40k. Not bolter porn, more of a body horror Cronenberg style piece.

Classic warhammer
Continues the story of Capt Ventis of the Ultra Marines. Demons and monsters heros and warriors combine for a good read.

Outstanding
Masterfully written, as is the entirety of Graham McNeill's Ultramarines series. These were my introductory novels to the world of 40k. I have very fond memories of my time spent immersed in these incredible books.

This book worries me ...
I have to tell you, I read a lot of BL fiction, and this is by FAR the most disturbing of the lot. I cannot quite work out whether this is a good thing or not. In many ways, it is utterly disgusting, but I suspect that quite a lot of McNeil's readers will expect and love it for exactly this reason. The writing is not bad, although I think it's the weakest of the (otherwise great) Ultramarines novels.

Honor and Duty
This way my first dive into WH40K. Now I LOVE this book for lots of reasons, however it's not your standard Warhammer feel. It's more gratuitous gore and B-Movie feel as compared to the usual Warhammer stuff. Like Uriel literally just breaks out of being bound by his pure unadulterated wrath. He's just like "for the emperor" and breaks his shackles. And other not to well thought out misadventures. But I still absolutely love it! I've since acquired all Uriels books as well as a vast library of other WH40K books.
