Good for beginners
A great book for beginners. I haven’t owned a Betta since I was a kid and I’ve forgotten a lot. This book also told me some useful information that I never knew. I recommend this for a new Betta owner or someone who is like me who hasn’t had a Betta in years and now is trying to remember what to do.

Good book
I really enjoyed reading this book and what it had to share on how to care for your betta fish. I started reading this book and did not stop until I was finished, granted it was on 79 pages but as captivating for a “how to” book. A little pricey (kindle) but better than most books I have read on betta fish.

Good info for the beginner
For the price of the Kindle edition, it's fine, but I would not pay the printed price. Most of what it contains you can find on the Internet, but it is nice to have it all in one place. As a new owner of Bettas, it was definitely useful, but it's not something you'll keep referring to for years or months.

No Descriptive Diagrams, No Helpful Illustrations
The colorful photo of the Betta fish on the cover suggests this is a complete manual for caring for a Betta fish. It is not complete. And the information inside isn't new and expansive on complete care. The price of this book is too high for a black & white information book. There were no color photos of Betta fish, their different types, some different colors, especially a descriptive diagram that showed Betta fish external & internal anatomy, illustrations of Betta fish diseases, parasites, etc. This is an incomplete book, and I could add my own printed-out photos, diagrams, illustrations, but I am diappointed the author didn't complete the book. There are other Betta fish care books for sale and websites that offer help in caretaking of Betta fish.

Thank you Marcus
My introduction to Bettas was when I inherited Tinsel from my daughter 3 months ago. His fins were ragged, water smelled & he was listless. Perhaps the velvet had something to do with that as well. I searched the Internet day after day, made many enquiries of the staff at my 2 local pet stores as I educated myself about Bettas. Then I came across Marcus book. Wow!! The most comprehensive and must have manual for Betta owners. Written in an easy to read conversational manner. Wish I had this from Day 1. Should be on the shelf alongside any Bettas for sale. Tinsel is now much happier in a bigger home with Speedy Gonzales (Julii Corey) as a new companion.

Way too expensive, no new info, save your money.
I have to say I was very disappointed in this book. I read it in less than an hour and got absolutely no new information than what I have already read on-line during my own research. And I would not call it "extensive research" either. I've only owned a betta for a couple of weeks. My first betta died in a matter of days (probably bought him with an illness) so this prompted me to research how to better care for my next betta. I researched on-line, bought a book about aquariums in general, and bought this book. My general aquarium book has been much more useful to me in how to set up and maintain an aquarium for my betta. (The Simple Guide to Fresh Water Aquariums)As far as the problem/solution section of the book? Very specific problem descriptions with very, very general solutions. Especially, one solution to check the oxygen level in the water. Just exactly how is one to do that? Is there a kit? Test strip? What? No indication whatsoever on how to do some of these tests.Aged water? Why? No other resource I have seen speaks of the necessity of aging water. This sound very, very impractical and unnecessary if you are trying to maintain a 10 gallon tank. It would be helpful if he can list the benefits of this practice vs. simply treating your tap water and using it immediately. It was also very, very simply written, terrible use of grammar, and sounded more like a school paper, rather than an expertly written, researched, edited book. Save your money and spend a couple of minutes researching whatever specific questions you have regarding bettas. It is out there in abundance.

Great information
great info for betta care. Pet stores and a lot of people misconstrue what the needs of a betta fish are. They do not belong in vases or small bowls just because they look cute in there. They deserve a happy life so I hope anyone looking for a long-term fish friend does the research required in giving them the best possible care.My betta is living happily in a 10 gallon aquarium.

Great book for Betta lovers
I was a inexperienced Betta owner and this book provided me with the information I needed to properly care for my male Betta. Using the information in the book, I was able to drastically improve the conditions and environment of my Betta aquarium and he is now a very active little guy. I was doing so many things wrong until I learned what and what not to do.
