Waking with the "Sun" in December
I purchased this clock to see if the artificial light would help me wake better during the dark months of the year. When I first received the clock, the glass dome piece was broken. I called BioBrite and they sent me a new part, immediately, at no cost (Bully for their costumer service!). The clock itself is pretty simple. It has a few modes and does what it needs to. I don't use the white noise function. It sounds more like fuzz than a soothing hum to me. Overall, though, I'm glad I purchased it. I only gave this product four stars for a few reasons: 1) when the light is on at its fullest it is REALLY bright and I mean REALLY bright. This hasn't bothered me in the past, but I recently changed bed configurations and am rethinking where I'll put the clock. Where it is now the light is more jarring to wake up to than pleasant; 2) there are no options for the kind of alarm sound to wake up to, it's just a generic (annoying) beeping sound; 3) the digital display is quite bright. It mutes some when the alarm is set, but is still moderately bright. The frustrating part is there's no way to dim the display without setting the alarm. On the weekends, I like not to set the alarm, but then I'm trying to find ways to block the display so I can fall asleep; and 4) there's no snooze button! It's just on or off. You can hit the button that dims the light down (it will slowly come back up), but this process isn't automatic. You have to hold the dimming button down until the light goes completely off. It would have been nice for there to be a single snooze button that automatically shuts the light off and gradually resets over the however-many-minute snooze period.

Great wake-up alternative, if a overly expensive and slightly flawed device
It is abit overpriced but I cannot deny its quality. Very easily assembled, with a sleek new age techno look. The glass half globe is pretty thick and looks durable but its still glass. It is a breeze to program ( assuming you read the instruction book) but the simplistic menu takes awhile to scroll through, not a big deal considering you really only need to program it all once. It has a clock which can be switched to military time. A programable alarm time. A sundown feature in addition to sunup and you can program how long the sunup and sundown times are (individually). It has a security feature that has it randomly light up at night so it looks like someone is home while your on vacation. The light can be turned on independently so you can use it as a night light. And this model has a "white noise" feature that sounds like radio static to help you sleep, and it can be turned on and off. And it has a backup beep if the light doesnt wake you. It isnt perfect. I wish the light got alittle brighter, I would really like to be blinded at maximum illumination, but it is pretty good. Perhaps in the future I can find a stronger bulb that fits. Also the white noise isnt smooth enough to help me relax. That being said it works well for me and I'm happy I bought it. Even in a sunny room ( my apartment shades are crap), the light is enough to wake me up slowly and naturally ( AS LONG AS I"M NOT DEAD TIRED), and if it fails theres always the backup beep. And the sundown feature is really great for helping me to fall asleep. Just make sure to put it as close to your bed as possible. In closing if you can handle the price tag and your not a very heavy sleeper and your sick of being rudely awakened by a blaring alarm...buy this product now.

so so
I bought this clock hoping to dispell some of the dreariness that happens here in the winter in the NW. It gets dark at 4pm, and you wake up to dark - and it rains all day, and is generally gray. You get the idea. I liked the idea of waking up to an actual sunrise. The clock itself is not well made, it has a standard bulb, and a cheap glass cover. I could make a similar gradual lightening with a timer plugged into a regular lamp and a dimmer. I was not impressed for over 100 bucks. The white noise sound has no volume control. Its either on or off. The only cool part about the light is that you can set it to start dimming at night 45, 30 or 15 minutes before you want to go to sleep. I use this while reading, and do get tired as the lights gradually dim. The light does gradually wake me up in the morning - and that part of the purchase was worth it. However, after a few minutes at full light - it auto turns off. All in all, a good idea, but not the best product. I might look around for one that is better made with more functionality.
