Great value, quality time with kiddo, very educational.
I really recommend you this educational toy. Spend some time with kiddo building and programming this robot. Great to teach them some basics of programming ESP based robots. Kids learn fast when they physically see the results of their efforts so in my opinion this is a wonderful way to teach them. You cannot go wrong with this, and you do not have to spend a fortune to buy it.You can do many cool things with this. For example, my kiddo and me built a wireless remote controlled car which can be controlled from a notebook. If you got other sensors, you can certainly enhance the capability of this robot. Only your imagination is the limit. The ESP board in it is a wonderful little computer, which is capable to talk to other devices on a wifi network. This makes it a very capable device. It can be powered via batteries, or a USB cable. You need a USB cable (not included) to connect this board to your PC for programming. The ESP board can be programmed in Lua scripting language, or Arduino depending on which firmware it is loaded with. As far as I can recall mine came with NodeMCU firmware built-in. You can also flash other firmware which will allow you to program in Arduino, should you prefer Arduino. This kit comes with Motor Shield which connects to the ESP board and makes it easy to connect wires from motors to the shield without soldering. You just have to strip the end of the wire and use a small Philips screw driver to screw it in. You will need to solder a wire connection to each motor though. All in all this is a wonderful kit, and a great value for your money. It will give you, as parent, an opportunity to spend quality time with your kiddos, and they will learn cool stuff from it which will benefit them in one way or the other.

A good gift for a young techy!
The item was very well packed, but arrived with the box cut open on all three lid sides other than the one that was an extension of the box. It seems that everything was there, but I was very disappointed with it having been cut open. My grandson said he was able to put it together, so the instructions were apparently understandable too. Thank You

Do not buy.
Very poor instructions for the chassis and wheel assembly. No instructions for the controller or how to wire it to the wheels. Basically this product is unusable.

The Web page they offer could be a bit better organized and better presented
This is my first experience with esp8266. The Web page they offer could be a bit better organized and better presented. I spend a lot of time browsing on their site and decided to look elsewhere for technical information. As I did not care that much about the included software as i do not want to controll it from a cell phone, but from a computer that was the right choice. After a lot of digging on the Web page I wasted a lot of time not realizing that I need to press both buttons for reflashing. Once you find that out the fun starts: Install esptool, ampy, picocom, pyserial, and so on. Than you can flash. When using piciocom dont forget to set the bout rate to 115200. . I tested Lua which works. I tested MicroPython which works. After finding ampy the fun realy started. Now you can develop on your computer and upload the file onto the board via ampy and running it. Great for testing and development. When using micropython make sure to use pin 4 and 5 for controlling the motors. Overall this works quite well. However if you have the budget raspberry 3 possibly with grove shields is much easier. Neverthelss, the price seems real good. The kit does not come with optocuplers though, but the wheel is included. I am buying another one because its so cheap.
