The media could not be loaded. The Foscam VZ4 works great! I found that the reliability, ease of setup, and performance exceeded my expectations. The setup process was very straight forward. The instructions were simple to follow and using the QR code on the bottom meant you don't even have to plug it into the router to connect it to the network. The physical part of hanging it is also very straight forward. It's very easy to screw the base unit into the location you choose, screw in the "hanger screws" on the camera itself, and then just twist the camera into the base and it's complete. Some people have complained that the app doesn't work or the connectivity is poor, however I haven't experienced that issue. I assigned the unit to a port in the router and have had zero issues with connectivity, lagging, or any other internet issues. I have my camera located next to the ocean in Kona, Hawaii, as you can see, and it performs excellent even under high heat and salt spray conditions. If you purchase this camera it will perform excellently in any conditions that you may encounter. I cannot review freezing conditions, however I believe that Foscam products are very reliable and will last longer than any other camera on the market. I am still using a Foscam 8910w which was purchased in 2011 to monitor growth of algae and it still works as if it's brand new. This camera will exceed your expectations and last.

The setup for the VZ4 is very straight forward, took me about 5 minutes to connect to my home network over 5G, a small surprise is that the camera is not equipped with speakers, so no prompt as in the setup instruction. The night vision is quite good, zooming, rotation of camera head all work reasonably well. What I like the most is I can wirelessly sftp videos to my server, that means I don't have to pay monthly subscription fees for cloud storage. The video quality is indeed quite good, however, it does not record sound over sftp on motion detection, strangely, manual recording has sound. for that, substract 1 star.I have contacted customer service for another camera, the rep Frank was very helpful, however, I have the impression that he's offshore, so I got response overnight, not a big deal. And for the problem with the camera, they finally sent me a replacement, happy that they stand behind their product.Overall, good customer service and great product for the price.

I have an old Logitech Alert camera security system. The reason I went with Logitech was the solid build quality, good resolution at the time and the online monitoring was free. Recently, I decided to research replacement cameras and ran across the Foscam VZ4. This camera is a significant upgrade from my Alert 700e. My old camera is fixed and lower resolution. The VZ4 is a PTZ camera with over twice the resolution and a 4X optical zoom. Replacing my old camera with the VZ4 was seamless and the Foscam VMS PC application is much better than the Logitech Alert application. Night vision and human detection works perfectly. I highly recommend the Foscam VZ4. It is reasonably priced, extremely well built and easy to install and set up!Update…I liked the VZ4 camera so much I decided to purchase a second VZ4 for the other side of my house. Both cameras were easy to install and set up in the Foscam software. Connecting to my home network worked perfectly the first time. Foscam has done an excellent job of making everything simple when setting up your own home security system. I’ve used other products in the past but the latest products from Foscam are far superior.

I originally bought the foscam SD2X 18X Optical Zoom 1080P HD Outdoor PTZ Camera. If you don't mind a camera that doesn't track anything, it is an excellent camera. Not a good camera for an average yard, but excellent for a large area.This camera however is nothing but awful. It's night vision is very bad. It constantly needs reset by plugging it into a cat6 cable (which defeats the purpose of being wireless), it moves left and right so slow it would have trouble following a snail set at the fastest speed, and it loses connection often while only being 10 feet from a wireless Extender. There are other issues, but surfice it to say pick a different camera. I will probably end up taking mine back down and putting it in a drawer.Second review....I am taking this 1 month old camera down. It has progressively gotten worse and worse. It barely functions now. The foscam app won't even acknowledge the camera. I bought the Ctronics 30x optical ptz cam to replace it with. The Ctronics is the best cam I now own. DO NOT buy this Foscam dome camera. It is junk! I regret this purchase. Wish I could give negative stars.
