What's on the Other Side? - What the Gospel Teaches Us about the Spirit World

Notes made while reading are for me an indicator of influence and inspiration. Notes I made while reading this book are confirmatory of that observation. Profound insights are available to be had.Content and anecdotes are well-ordered, plain spoken (written), and consistent with revealed truth. Doctrine and principles are thoughtfully delineated. Easily comprehended and quickly read.Recommended.

Exactly what I want.

This is truly great. I have the audio CD, which someone told me is from a BYU Education Week lecture (the CD jacket doesn't say). I assume the book is different - I have ordered it too, and will gladly read that also.I usually avoid "church books," feeling they are mostly a rehash of things I've always heard, and my time would be better spent with scriptures and conference talks. However, this book really brings together what we know about the spirit world. I highly recommend this.I love the quote in this book by Joseph Smith on death and the afterlife: "It is a subject that we ought to study more than any other... If we have any claim on our heavenly Father for anything, it is for knowledge on this important subject."I have always been very interested in the next life, figuring the more I know the better decisions I can make now. I have read a lot of near-death experience books, which I always take with a huge grain of salt.But this book by Dr. Top is one of my favorites on the topic, because of its systematic, LDS-gospel-centered approach to the question.I found this book both comforting and motivating. I reminds me that it's all going to be OK. Although I will suffer to the degree I don't repent in this life. And most importantly: the more Christ-like I can become now, the better off I'll be there (and the fewer people I'll hurt along the way).

Loved this book. Very well written. Everything written seemed to ring true and is centered on the gospel of Christ.

The CD is very informative and answered questions I have had about the nature of the spirit world. My wife and I discovered that it is not a place to fear but instead look forward to. The speaker presents material from the scriptures, General Authorities and personal insights from members and non-members of the LDS church. We found the content to be engaging and convincing given that each concept was backed by solid references. In the past, my wife and I have both read books about near-death experiences and insights of those who have visited the spirit world. The accounts have not seemed fully convincing, or in other words, did not cause the spirit to be felt so as to testify to their validity. We were both fully engulfed in the spirit as we listened to What's on the Other Side and have lent the disc to others so they can experience the same. Since having listened to the CD multiple times, I have begun a serious study of the plan of salvation to better understand how I can best prepare for eternal life. Additionally, reading "The Promised Messiah" and "The Millenial Messiah" by Bruce R. McConkie has tied together the concepts of eternal life and what to expect moving forward. I'm very grateful that the CD has provided me a greater understanding and daily motivation to endure to the end.

This is more recent book fro Brent Top on what we can expect from the Spirit world after death. Top has done significant research into near-death experiences, as well as research into how the information coming from these experiences coincide with Gospel principles. I've actually read his earlier book on near death experiences "Glimpses Beyond Death's Door". I find his books to be good learning material for me, and gives me a lot of hope. Both my parents died in 2010 within a month, and just recently my mother-in-law died after caring for her for a year. She had Lewy Body dementia, and she wasn't herself for a while. It's is so comforting to know that our loved ones are no longer in pain, but are themselves again. And this book and near death experiences really help to confirm these truths.For members of the church, and those seeking answers about death...this is a comforting 'must read'. Not only does it relieve the mind about the death of others, but it also makes death not as scary.

Given the author’s religious preference, which I share, this was an interesting and well presented read. There were lots of references and a well organized presentation.

An excellent approach to bring the revealed truths that are universal to mankind concerning life after death. The documentation is well done, the organization of the material is superb, and the logic is presented with love.This book is a definite must have/read if you are also reading/investigating books like  Proof of Heaven , Life After Life: The Investigation of a Phenomenon--Survival of Bodily Death , Embraced by the Light , or  The Message  - in order to relate their near death experiences to Christ, the Gospel, and today's religious turmoil and be able to come away with a better understanding for your life.My only wish is that there were more copies available to gift to those that have lost a loved one who can benefit from the comfort obtained by seeking the knowledge shared in this book.I also purchased the audio cd and it is VERY closely related to the book (as the audio recording occurred first and was an oft repeated topic that he was encouraged to write down to create the book) and is worthwhile to help recall the many topics without reading the entire book.
