Lost Mines and Buried Treasures of Arizona
R**R
This is the BEST accumulated information on the Lost Adams Diggings generally available.
First, the writing is generally horrible, lurching from painfully flowery to irritatingly laconic. It is well worth wading through, however. You will be escorted through all the most documented (to semi-documented) theories about the Diggings locations. It will all be laid out for you to see how disparate and contradictory the treasure stories are. Dobie never infers which one (or if any) theory he believes in, though i think he is demonstrating with as much subtlety as he's capable, that the Diggings took on a metamorphosing life of their own, from almost the instant that Adams staggered out of the weeds, close to Ft. Apache. You are left with an exasperating array of possibilities, made worse by the fact that Dobie unearthed enough contemporary accounts that argue that there's SOMETHING to this story. And ultimately, it's a cautionary tale, as Dobie dwells at length on the personalities who searched in vain, squandered their time and money, and wound up as bleached bones in the desert. Despite it's flaws, this book is definitely worth reading and owning, and once you've digested everything it offers you, you will be able to discuss the Lost Adams Diggings, intelligently, with anyone, regardless of which far-fetched theory they believe in. -Richard C. Disappointed with this book
I am disappointed with this book. Written by such a famous treasure hunter, I was expecting more. Clearly he is a much better treasure hunter than he is a writer. For example, he includes two treasure leads that are located in the Grand Canyon National Park. You are NOT allowed to search and dig for treasure in this national park. I have no idea why he even included the leads in this book. He must of been looking for filler material. He also writes about another lead that is located in a local or state park. Um, NO, you are not allowed to search or dig for treasure there! The lost Dutchman's mine? These mines have already been found. And again, you are NOT allowed to search nor dig for gold in this area.I could of come up with better leads than these. And these leads that a lost or hidden ledge or mine is located "somewhere" in such and such mountains. Be real!

Handy size for a day or backpack
Awesome book that gives fairly detailed information where possible. Handy size that stores easily in a backpack while on your treasure hunting adventures. My only gripe is, I wish it were available in hardback or spiral binding; otherwise a great little book. Very cool.Recommend.

Great library addition for me as a prospector
I live full time as a prospector in a small RV in Southern AZ. Sorta Off grid.Any book I can find like this one is a must...read it 1st day.Re-read next day...I use it as a referance source.Have 30 books on topic as you might imagineAs with all treasure and gold finding stuff...the books with common threads or stories have different clues buried within...a clue here in one book...another over there in that book all about the same treasure story or place to look sometimes by one name of the trasure..sometimes by another name. But the stories are the same.Good cross referance book or starting out.No I won't lend it,twodogs

Good one
I rarely give treasure hunting books good ratings because most of the writers are obviously using disinformation and just trying to fund their own hunts. I liked this one. It was pretty well done.

full of good descriptions of robbers and prospectors that met untimely ends
Really an exciting read, full of good descriptions of robbers and prospectors that met untimely ends.In this age of Google, maps, the maps provided by the author were a little useless..
