Q: would this work on sweaters ?

It would probably depend on the stitching of the sweater. Makes more sense for close knit stitching. It works well for sheets and a pair of jeans but I’d be careful on a sweater.

No I don't think it is strong enough.

Q: Can I use these for a down comforter?

You should be able to. As long as you can safely apply a hot iron to the fabric, yes it will mend your comforter

Q: What is the recommended iron setting?

I do it on the hotter end of the dial on the iron.
