Family fun with a cooking surprise!
Although not a fan of graphic novels, Lily LaMotte and Ann Xu won me over from their punny title to the perfect MG story of fitting in and holding onto your own culture and beliefs. The cooking contest scenes are exactly as I remember watching on TV. Middle Grade readers will be tempted by the food introduced in the perfect panels these two creatives concocted for us. The theme of friendship is subtle and authentic with no preaching. Adults will enjoy this graphic novel MEASURING UP, too. I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next, either in the kitchen or on the pages of her second novel.

Second grader loves this book
My second grade daughter has read this book about 5-6 times since receiving it a week ago. It's her first graphic novel, but she has no trouble picking up the format. I appreciate that the plot introduced her to another culture and has her interested in cooking.

Heartwarming, perfect for foodies!
Measuring Up is an excellent feel-good, coming-of-age story which pays homage to the love between a granddaughter and her grandmother. This book also tackles themes like Asian culture, immigration, healthy female friendships, and of course, food. It will certainly appeal to Julia Child fans who enjoy middle-grade books about food or those who enjoy watching cooking contests. I loved this heartwarming debut, and would highly recommend.

A beautiful story about the immigrant experience, filled with heart and hope.
A beautiful story about the immigrant experience, filled with heart and hope. Perfect for budding chefs or for those wanting a story of friendship and family and culture. The generational conflict is what many immigrant families can relate to. It blends culture in so many different ways and shows how food really is the language of the world.

A Delicious Read!
This was such a fun read! If you like cooking shows, you’ll love this book. It’s fun to think about the surprise ingredients as you follow along with the fast paced competitions. The book also handles diversity, friendship, and belonging, but does so in a subtle, authentic way. I highly recommend it!

Good book
My 10 year old really enjoys this book. Compared it to being similar to Bake off show. My kid enjoys cooking and learning about cooking so it’s right up her alley.
