"The Artist Who Did Not Want to Paint"
I bought this album mainly for the one special track included that has nothing to do with Rio Conchos. That track is "The Artist Who Did Not Want to Paint," one of the most classical works ever written by Jerry Goldsmith . . . a rich and deeply resonant score that was written for the short feature which preceded the road show theatrical release of "The Agony and the Ecstasy," the 1965 motion picture based on Irving Stone's biographical novel about Michaelangelo and his struggle to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Reluctant to say the least, Michaelangelo maintained that he was a sculptor, not a painter; but at the insistence of Pope Julius, he undertook that task. Both this short feature, and Goldsmith's music, serve to underscore that epic struggle that produced the great works that Michaelangelo accomplished in his life. Jerry Goldsmith brought forth some of the true magnificence of his own talent as well in composing this twelve minute score, and it stands of a work of singular greatness on its own.
