Jamaica High Mountain Coffee Roast and Ground 16oz

Just OK, and kind of .... subtle.
As I consider the price of a good Jamaican coffee a huge splurge, I have to honor the extra money I spent with a product review. For good or bad, I am a guy with a keen sense of smell. To the point, more than one person has suggested I could be part blood-hound. I am hypersensitive to a lot of smells and scents, but I do love the aroma of coffee. What struck me first about this particular coffee Jamaica High Mountain Coffee Roast and Ground 16oz was there was little aroma. That was worrisome. Unlike most packaged coffees, that will have you fondling the bag to get another whiff, this one had hardly a scent before opening and very little once cut open. It seems the reason is that there is no valve on the bag. Degassing valves are commonly used to allow roasters to package freshly roasted coffee while still hot, releasing CO2, but not letting air in. Without such a valve, this roaster had to let the coffee cool completely before bagging, losing precious oils to evaporation that would have otherwise been sealed in the bag. This is a medium roast which is good since the nuances of a good bean can be destroyed by dark roasting. A light roast would not have worked as this bean is only mildly acidic, not too fruity; needing a strong enough roast to bring out its flavor. If your taste tends toward blonde-roasts, you may appreciate the mildness of this coffee. However, most of them can be found for less than half this price. The product is labelled 100% Jamaican, not a blend. However, there is no estate information on the packaging. This suggests to me the roaster bought marketplace beans less prized on the island and branded them; resulting in a much lower product price than commanded by a premium bean from a known estate. You wondered about caffeine? Yes, indeed. For all its mellowness, or blandness, OK let’s just call it subtleness, a single cup of this brew in the evening kept me writing late into the night instead of needing sleep. File under “study aid”.The lot I received was 7106 BBE 04/2016 MFG 14/04/2015, X000RKQD7X, as of my purchase date already 10 months old with two remaining before expiration. My splurge was a holiday gift. Ah well, sometimes you pay your dollar and take your chances. It was OK; obviously not my favorite Jamaican purchase. Glad to have tried it, but it’s not on my re-order list. Cheers.

Meh. Just buy the good stuff
I'll stick with Blue Mountain coffee. I figured I wouldn't be able to taste a difference since I'm not a coffee snob, but I DEFINITELY could tell this is not as good as Blue Mountain coffee. It'snot as smooth and is bitter. It doesn't really taste any different that what I can buy down at Kroger. I will gladly spend more to buy the coffee I normally buy.

I loved the real Jamaican coffee
I've had Jamaican coffee and thought this would be similar. I loved the real Jamaican coffee, but this coffee is just plain awful!!!! It tasted like tree bark. So sorry it's not good, because I loved the real deal. Lesson learned.

Coffee package was not sealed .
I love this coffee and paid more for it on here than in Jamaica , expected , but what I did not expect was to receive a unsealed package :(It was all wrapped correctly like you would buy in the store but wrapped with tape around it kinda oddly , it wasn’t necessary but I realized it was taped because it was sliced underneath .I had a pot today it doesn’t taste stale but I am still a little dissapointed and not sure if I will purchase again
